Deer Tick is best describe as alternative country with an indie rock backbone hehehe. i like their album War Elefant and their cover of Sean Kingston's Beautiful Girl. they made an awful song beautiful with their soulful ala sam cooke rendition hehehe.

1. she and him - volume one (definitely on top of the list, bar none.)

2. portishead - third (best make-up album. best break-up album.)

3. the dodos - visiter (although i'm much partial to their previous effort[beware of the maniacs], this is worthy to be on the third spot)

4. vetiver - things of the past (my favorite covers album aside from slayer's undisputed attitude. "to baby"[originally from obscure comedian biff rose] is very very post-beatles lennon or, for the lack of a better word, very "hippie".)

5. guns n' roses - chinese democracy (nevermind the hype or the fact that it took these fkers 15-fkin-years to release a decent album and not just rehash the same shit or the fact that axl rose is very likely the most hated frontman in all rock n roll's encompassing history, [eminem probably ranks second] and nevermind if Rose is an aging dinosaur. if you cannot like this album, then you simply suck. )

6. mogwai - hawk is howling (post-rock at its peak, their best effort to date)

7. mgmt - oracular spectacular (**** art, let's dance!)

8. bon iver - for emma, forever ago (i have a complicated theory that this is actually a concept album and the meat of the marrow is a.) a re-telling of the quasi-distopian noir film "dark city" b.) an untold love story of anarchist-feminist emma goldman as told by karl max c.) or a combination of both. or maybe im just smoking too much dope.)

9. conor oberst - s/t (i didn't really like it at first but after repetitive listen it became catchy and hummable as f-k. his first solo in the longest time[13 years] recorded when bright eyes frontman visited mexico., asked the aide of the mystic valley band and did a "neil young".)

10. black mountain - into the future (one tempo short of becoming a stoner rock effort. i've seen the future and it's wearing spandex pants, not sunglasses.)
