Xbitlabs reports that AMD is preparing two unlocked multiplier series APUs. As we reported back in July, the A8-3870K will release in Q4 2011. The A8-3870K features a clock speed of 3.0GHz, 100MHz higher than the A8-3850, but is in every other way identical to the A8-3850. AMD is also planning to release an A6 APU with an unlocked multiplier - A6-3670K. Similarly, it features a base clock speed 100MHz higer than the A6-3650, at 2.7 GHz.

In the past, AMD CPUs with unlocked multipliers have been branded "Black Edition" or previously "FX". It appears now that AMD will follow a similar pattern to Intel, branding unlocked multiplier CPUs with a "K" suffix. All FX-Series CPUs are rumoured to feature unlocked multipliers.

In addition to the K APUs, AMD is also planning slight refreshes for the 65W APUs, with A8-3820, A6-3620 and A4-3420 releasing in Q4. All three APUs feature a CPU clock speed 100MHz higher than the parts they are refreshing. Finally, the E2-3200 also releases in Q4, as expected, catering to consumers on a stringent budget. AMD's first dual-core Llano parts, A4-3300 and A4-3400 are now available.
