    Unhappy ERROR 99 on CANON 50D... Help!!!


    My brother just got a Canon EOS 50D and when we got home we tested the unit. He used my 450D kit lens since he bought a "body only" unit.

    After taking a few shots, an error message prompted on the screen, it was ERROR 99! After doing the troubleshooting recommended on the owner's manual, I did a little research on the net but it seem this king of error is a "catch-all" kind of error the causes of which may involved the CF card to the Lens and the camera shutter and so on...

    Has anybody here experienced this especially on a brand new cam? Please help! Its a Sunday tom and Monday is a holiday so the Canon Service Center will not be open until Tuesday.

    Yup, i tried restarting but the error message flashes on the screen after a few shots. I also removed the battery and the lens then placed it back and restarted it but the error message pops out after a few shots are taken..

    tangtanga balik imo cf bloweri sa giotto then taud balik, or basin sa lens ra na,,use an eraser then e rub sa contacts...basin hugaw ra na or miscontact...or try another cf card,hu knows,na timingan ra mo ug gubaon na cf..

    ang cf card brandnew or secondhand?

    What version is your firmware?
    If it's lower than 1.0.3 you should update.

    Check also the electrical contacts that connect the lens to the body and make sure they are clean.

    @inkinian: The CF card is also brand new. but haven't tried removing it though. I'll try to do that and see what happens. Thanks for the tip.

    @andy99: This is the first time I read that the firmware may have something to do with the error, it did not cross my mind either since the unit is brand new and I was thinking it should have the latest update/firmware on it.

    But you may be right, how do I check the cam's firmware? (I'm just a noob and still don't know much on how to navigate with the cam)

    One day palang jud bro! Wala lang jud btaw nako gpang hilabtan kay basin ma unsa unya. Anxious lang ko bro kay sunday man gud ron unya holiday ugma so basin Tuesday pa mo abli ang canon service center sa mabolo.

    BTW, does anybody have an idea if CANON in mabolo will open tomorrow which is a holiday?

    I have read this in another forum.
    Somebody had the same problems and they disappeared after he upgraded his frimware.

    But, since your camera is brand new better have it replaced under warranty.

    Yup, replacing the unit is also what I want.

    Any idea if Canon in Mabolo will be open tomorrow which happens to be a holiday?
