    Default Filipinos in Manga/Anime/Japanese Media

The discussion about Randy Boy Jr., a fictional Filipino boxing champion in the Hajime no Ippo thread piqued my interest. Do you guys know any other Filipino characters from foreign media?

Hajime no Ippo has an abundance of Pinoy boxers, by the way.

One particular title I found interesting was Yarudora volume 3: Sampaguita, a PSP and PS1 game about a Filipino girl, Maria Santos. Art by Masamune Shirow of Ghost in the Shell fame. I've read good reviews about this game...

I think the salesman Onizuka met in the manga was also Pinoy.

Any others you know of, guys?

Hmm.. let's see. i googled a bit and got these..
Please verify if these are true. I'll prolly google some of these later. As of now, i'm a bit tired. xD

-> In Counter Strike condition zero deleted scenes, the second mission of the game is in the Phillippines where you fight against terrorists called abu-sayyaf.

-> Nicole alias Spartan 458 from Dead of Alive 4
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicole_(Dead_or_Alive)

-> Jose Rizal in Medal of Honor
Filipino national hero Jose Rizal is a playable character in the game's head-to-head mode. When he is killed, he says in Tagalog, "O Inang Bayan" (O My Motherland) or "Adios, Patria Adorada" (Farewell, My Adored Land).
Medal of Honor - Medal of Honor
    (i lol'ed at his lines )

-> Arado Balanga of Super Robot Wars

(Because of his surname, some fans <specifically, Filipino fans> are suspecting he's from the Philippines).
This one's note sure, just a possibility.

-> Pham Luis and Jose Astrada from Front Mission 3

    Pham Luis

    Age: 17
Nationality: OCU Philippines (she lives in the PLF occupied zone)
    Occupation: Anti-government guerilla
    Starting Wanzer: Zeros
    Specialities: Melee

A spoiled, but kind of likeable daughter of one of the richest families of the Philippines, Pham joined to the PLF (Philippines Liberation Front), an organization sworn to separate the country from the OCU. Although her character is undesirable at the beginning, she gradually becomes more serious and responsible and decides to go with Kazuki's team after the incident at Taal Base ends. She gets into fights with Ryogo occasionally. She is only available in Alisa's story but can be seen as an enemy character in Emma's story if the players don't destroy the Cadenza in Stanley Mountains. Her character is reminiscent of Shoryu Asuka Langley from Evangelion, for both personality and appearance. Pham is mentioned in Emma's story as getting married to a member of OCU Singapore's royal family (since Singapore is not ruled by a monarchy, it is presumed that the 'royal family' meant the family of the prime minister or president).

    Jose Astrada

    Age: 35
    Nationality: OCU Philippines
    Occupation: OCU Philippines Navy Sniper
    Starting Wanzer: Pare Paw 1
    Specialities: Rifle

Possibly the character with the most unfortunate background, Jose quit obeying orders after mistakenly killing his wife during a mission and was convicted for insubordination. Swearing never to take up arms again, he was forced to pilot a Wanzer one last time during the attack on OCU Taal Base (built on the site of the real-life Taal Volcano). Jose can be recruited in Emma's story if the player chooses the option of climbing the mountain. He will join the unit after the escape from Taal Base. However, he will be an enemy character if the player chooses to go inside the mountain. He is also an enemy character in Alisa's story. It should be noted that Jose and Li cannot be recruited together. (Note: Jose's name is a mistranslation of the original found in the Japanese version. According to a Japanese-language strategy guide, the Front Mission Platinum Expert Manual 'Astrada' is actually Estrada.)
    ---
Jose Astrada (Estrada) an OCU Philippines heavy sniper soldier from Front Mission 3
Pham Luis an anti-government guerilla from Front Mission 3
Dagat Ahas the name of the aquatic mobile fortress from Front Mission 3
plenty of Filipinos there in the OCU taal base.

-> A part of the game Crysis takes place on Spratley Islands

-> Manny Pacquiao in Fight Night.

-> Not really a Filipino character, but possibly a Filipino term: In Halo, a covenant "term" for the grunts is "unggoy"
Unggoy - Halopedia, the Halo Wiki - The definitive source for Halo information
That's what a certain forum poster said, though wiki says the term has a latin origin.

I'm not sure of the following characters/info..
-> The character Mr. Big from SNK's Art of Fighting series uses escrima sticks.

-> In the Double Dragon video game, generic bad guy characters use escrima sticks.

-> In the game Mortal Kombat, the characters Quan Chi and Dairou practice Escrima, also, Sonya Blade and Kobra use Kali sticks.

-> In Mortal Kombat Annihilation, Master Sultan Uddin not only portrayed Reptile, but choreographed Princess Kitana's fight sequence showcasing movements of Eskrima Serrada. In Mortal Kombat Conquest, the television series, Master Sultan Uddin showcased Eskrima Serrada as the character Noob Saibot.

-> The characters of Anito: Defend a Land Enraged

-> Ironically, there is no Filipino Character in the Filipino-made game Terra Wars]
    (copy paste FTW)

-> Away Agila Characters....being made for PC a 3d fighting game... Kuwatog is a name of a character
    (copy paste FTW.. again).

-> Eileen from Darker than Black

Eileen is her name. I don't know about her last name though.
She can be seen on episode 16 or 17..

    she's the girl on right.

Eileen from Darker Than Black is a hooker from the Philippines getting into the pants of dirty japanese businessmen.
(I haven't finished Darker than Black, so i'm not sure about this.. copy paste ftw)

-> Speed Grapher: included a scene in the Philippines. I haven't seen this but according to a certain forum poster, a character in the show, Chouji Suitengu's sister, was a beaten prostitute in the Philippines..

-> Pacquiao is also in a boxing game as well as lam-ang which appeared in an international game.
    ()

-> This is not from an anime/manga source, but Bishop from X-Men is said to be partly Pinoy.

-> Eikichi Onizuka from G.T.O met a Filipino salesman in the G.T.O prequels.

-> A manga, "MPD psycho", featured a lot about the Philippines but mostly in the metro areas. The mangaka seemed to have toured once in the Philippines. Some places in the country can be seen in his drawings. They say he even added some tagalog conversations in the manga.
(I have yet to check this manga to confirm it).

-> I've read from a post that the original starship troopers main character is filipino but was changed to argentinian in the movie. (I have no idea about this).

-> Talim from Soul Calibur II

Last but not the least, 100% Filipino characters in anime/manga/games:

-> Hajime no Ippo Filipino boxers:

    Boy, Randy Jr.
    IPB Image
    Country: Philippines
    Weight Class: Feather
    Style: Ambidexterous
    Record: 1-?-?, 1 KO
    Titles:
    OPBF Interim Featherweight Champion
First Manga Appearance: Volume 71 Round 661
    First Anime Appearance: N/A

    Background Information -

A mysterious boxer who is managed by Mr. Sakaguchi. He was previously ranked 2nd in the OPBF (one behind Ippo), but now he is the Interim OPBF Champion. While Miyata was healing, Randy Boy and Ippo were going to fight to see who could be the OPBF Interim Champ, but Kamogawa turned it down thinking that they were already going to fight Miyata anyway. It turns out that Mr. Sakaguchi has probably greased the wheels and forced the OPBF to make Miyata fight Randy first anyway.

There is a really good chance that Randy Boy Jr. is the son of the boxer who broke Miyata Sr.'s jaw during his OPBF Featherweight Title match. Randy tells Miyata that it is their destiny to fight. Also when Miyata first saw Randy he obviously looked familiar to him, so he might have been remembering back to that match.

Miyata was going to relinquish the belt and fight Ippo before moving onto the world anyway, but he then discovered who Randy was. Randy is the son of the man who ended the career of Miyata Sr. Like his father he is an ambidexterious boxer. Miyata will be defending the OPBF Title against him. Mr. sakaguchi has already made it known that he wants Ippo to fight against Randy, "after Randy beats Miyata". Sakaguchi is confident in Randy's victory over Miyata.

First Manga Appearance: Volume 41 Round 364
    First Anime Appearance: N/A

    Background Information -

A boxer from the Philippines who isn't anything special. Kimura fights him during his comeback fight and manages to beat it by decision. Kimura didn't stick with his outboxing style though, he kept going for the KO, hoping to show the crowd something good like his fight with Mashiba.

    ---

    Arade, Boy
    Country: Philippines
    Weight Class: Light
First Mentioned: Volume 27 Round 234
First Appearance: Volume 27 Round 235

    Background Information -

Aoki fights him in a rank match. The whole thing is pretty much a blood bath with both fighters getting beaten. Aoki manages to pull out a win when Arate's corner throws in the towel.

    Battery, Eleki
    IPB Image
    Country: Philippines
    Gym: Battery

    Titles:
    Filipino Junior Lightweight Champion
First Manga Appearance: Volume 58 Round 525*
    First Anime Appearance: N/A

    Background Information -

A Filipino fighter that Kimura fights against on the undercard for Takamura and David Eagle's WBC Middleweight Title Match. He is very technically sound and proficient, much like Kimura, but only a stronger. He wins the early rounds of their first fight, but Kimura finds out that Eleki is weak in the body. Kimura drops him a few times and the first fight ends up a draw. According to Takamura's bet with Kimura, if Kimura lost he had to get a hair cut like Eleki. Since he drew, Takamura went easy on him and agreed that it was acceptable that Kimura could just do a lightning bolt on one side that could be be covered up.

The two fight again on Takamura's first WBC Middleweight Title defense again Richard Fox. This time Eleki came prepared with a tough body, but Kimura can still only draw with him. I look for Eleki and Kimura to fight again somewhere down the road, possibly on the OPBF stage.

    * - Appears in a photograph first in Volume 57 Round 520

    Background Information -

He ended the career of Miyata Sr. in their OPBF title match. He was the defending OPBF Champion and Miyata Sr. challenged him afte relinquishing the JBC title. Miyata Sr. was winning on points, but still attempted the JOLT! Counter on the spot to Randy. He thought that Randy was a southpaw, but he was really an ambidexterous boxer whose left and right were both of equal strength. He quickly changed his stance when Miyata Sr. threw the JOLT! and countered with a straight of his own that broke the jaw of Miyata Sr.

His son, Randy Boy Jr. will be fighting against Miyata next for the OPBF Featherweight Title.

Malcomn Neto. Looks like a filipino movie villan or a baller. He's the one that was pitted against Ippo Makunochi.
