this is hardly the case. intel has an 80-core prototype UP and RUNNING. so, a 12 core wouldn't give them a scare.

what interests me most is the upcoming Phenom II processors. i've heard that they run up to 4GHz on air, and at least 6GHz on N2O, and from this POV, they're at least catching up with Core 2 Duo, although more than a year late. if this will go well, we'll see a more competitive product from AMD, forcing prices to fall down and hard. XD

no, ordinary desktop users wouldn't need more than 2 cores, and that would be so for at least another three years. and you aren't being sarcastic. XD
