What to click when sending a file thru FTP?

hi all,

I am new to group, and was glad that somebody gave me this link. I am a newbieÂ* here. I got some concerns about how to send file using file transfer protocol. A friend of mine wants me to try it, but I am using a laptop, and got a prob on how to ever find such link. Any help would greatly be appreciated. I tried browsing and surfing it to the net, but, unlucky, I still couldn't figure how.

send file using FTP to a friend?

the person you'll be sending to must have a server.

im using ftp at work... transfering files and almost everything from Unix Station to PC and vice versa...
correct me if im wrong but i think it works coz they have the same server or hub or what do you call that thing
u also have to know the other computers IP address...

but if u'll going to transfer files from ur computer to ur friends computer using the internet...
why not try www.yousendit.com you can send up to 1GB file...
but while transfering, keep in mind that "Patience is a Virtue"

if you are using XP you can activate the ftp function and make your own pc a server where you could place files in a designated folder for ftp used, however you need to have a static IP address inorder for your friend to locate your pc in the internet. on his/her end he/she may need an ftp software or XP can actually let you drag and drop files between both your friend and your pcs. by the way it would help if your read the manual too...
