IMHO its not just poverty. Culture is also a factor in this mindset. If we look at our history, we always had an odd bias to foreigners especially Caucasians to the point of treating them as superior to us. From the first Spanish conquistadors to the Americans liberators, our history showed our affinity with foreigners. Among Asian countries, it seemed that only our nation is the least nationalistic and has no concrete identity. We marvel at foreigners and look down on our own. We prefer Fil-Foreign mestizos/mestizas talents more than our local ones. We idolize the Jasmine Triases etc. and gave them treatments normally reserved for dignitaries yet media provides only tidbits of our locally raised pinoy's exploits abroad.

I think the Filipino nation needs an overhaul in nationalism and education.

You nailed it man. Apart from the never-ending existence of poverty in our nation [which also is present in other nations], our culture is inclined to elevating anything white. Though we claim to be a nationalistic people, our attitude and our behavior is indifferent to a pure filipino's innate abilities and feats.

Most of the Filipinos used Friendster for social networking that's why those foreigners who would like to meet a Filipina for example would link to the network for friends. In other countries most teens are using Facebook or MySpace those are two of the biggest social networking today.

Good point you got there, Bro.

However, there will always be modern Rizals and Bonifacios. Rizal with the mighty pen and Bonifacio with his sword. The writer is the former, and you, i assume, prefer the latter (dapat naay action). But not all people are born with mighty guts.

But back to what has been posted by the TS, IMHO, such mentalities of marrying someone to alleviate poverty is not uncommon , na-timingan lang nga sikat ang friendster sa ilaha and mao ra sad tawn naabot sa iyang paminsar. Kulang lang gyud sa Edukasyon ang kasagaran nato. It is only through Education and Equal Opportunity that poverty-a cancer in the society- can be cured. And I mean quality Education, with college degree.

I think naa pud sila mabuhat ana. For example, ang writer is a Gabriela member. Adto sila sa Congress para ma voice out nila ang mga in-ani na problema. Theoritically, naay action.

Para nako dili man siguro education ang i-blame. Even ang mga first-world countries they problems regarding the social networks kay dinha man pud mo estambay ang mga bad elements like pedophile.

well, it is quite shocking to hear that even from people in the boondocs. but let's face it, all that people will ever know, whether from the tallest mountains or the most populated cities, is the fastest way to make money. money means security, and if there's extra, luxury. it's how the capitalist economic world works.

I think dili man siguro ang problema ni sa mga capitalist. Why, ang mga capitalist countries ra ang nag-gamit kuwarta? How about ang mga communist, murag gamit man sila ug kuwarta?

Ang usa siguro nato i-blame is we are open kaayo ta ug mga in-ani na mga websites. Why not i-block or filter ni nato ang mga sites na maka-daot sa mga filipino people?
