i know its safer with an avr (or best with a ups)... i'm still saving up for a servo-controlled avr
besides, i'm not using my rig as often as before (at least until i buy an avr). i usually surf using my laptop c",)

as i mentioned earlier, a surge protector will only protect you if and only if your electric outlets are properly grounded. otherwise, there's no sense in buying/using one (it only gives you a false feeling of protection, which unfortunately also means you're not protected). besides, quality PSUs are designed to work over a (limited) range of input voltages.

ang imong avr ran bro kay kana rang imong cpu og lcd or monitor.. not even the monitor. kay kasagaran sa monitor karon kay autovolt naman modagan mana ang monitor bsan og 110V if autovolt na cya. so ang imong avr ran gyud kay kanang imong cpu ra unta gyud kay mao mana cya ang sensitive sa voitage fluctiation.. ang uban like printer scanner. og unsa pa diha nga dili sensitive og voltage. largo nana cya plug sa 220vac outlet.. k..

@blade bro what do you mean by properly grounded? ang surge protector ang naay ground or ang device na naka plug sa surge protector ang dapat naay ground?

the following link is some good material to answer your questions
    on surge protectors: http://computer.howstuffworks.com/surge-protector.htm
    2- vs 3-prong plugs/sockets: http://www.howstuffworks.com/question110.htm

note that common surge protectors available use a 3-prong plug (for the hot, neutral, and ground wires). it means it expects a ground wire since most of these products just ground the excess voltage. without the ground wire (i.e. if we break of the round prong of a 3-prong plug), what do you think will absorb the excess voltage?

you can use surge protector using simple diodes, coil, caps, and resistor with two prong system. Coil ug caps ang gadala ug bida ani to solve your excess voltage query.

ang sakit sa MOV usually mao ni dali maguba. You can see this item usually sa mga high-end systems

yeah, mao na kadaot diri kay duha ra ka ngipon ato outlet, cguro if you mod and make a 3-hole socket and stick a metal in the ground wiring that 3rd part. Mas okay cguro, i don't know basin ma korentihan hinoon ka in the process

Yes there are surge protectors that works for 2 wires only but its capacity to protect from surges is very very limited.. my 2 plug AVR has a surge protector but very minimal and is fuse protected to cut the power right away..

Right now i use a 500VA servo type w/ 30secodns delay AVR ( turbo at 5seconds ) and i might upgrade it to a higher and better brand so that my PSU has little power filtering to do.
