It doesn't matter if one's process is digital or traditional. You cannot judge an artist by the medium they use. Digital or otherwise, the skills needed to create a successful painting depends on the basics, anatomy, lighting, perspective, color and composition. To compare the two is a complete bullocks and does not lend any relevant conclusion other than a prejudiced artist's opinion that his tool is better than the other's.

I'm a digital artist but my background also involves traditional art (I mostly used acrylics, pencils and soft pastels). I think most digital artists start out in traditional arts because its a very good foundation to start. Its where you learn about color principles, perspective, composition and etc. I've always believed that an artist --- digital or not should learn the basics first before exploring more... I just happen to choose digital as my main medium of expression. But I can switch to traditional and back if I want to... depende lang kung unsay feel.

I think there's a lot of people out there who think digital art is easy... but believe me, its as technical as painting on canvas. It just depends on the kind of digital art people are exposed to. And no I'm not talking about the cut and paste digital art. Just take this http://www.bertmonroy.com/fineart/te...eart_damen.htm as an example. The whole thing was done on PS. It took 15,000 layers total and eleven months to finish with a flattened file size of 1.7 GB. This is the same as making a painting except done with PS. My point is what really matters is the creative process -- be it with a brush or a mac.

    wow...

i guess it doesnt really matter then. both require an amount of technical proficiency. and traditional / digital are two sides of the same coin.

but, who gets the better jobs? or who gets the most moolah?

this is like comparing a horse with a car..of course a car is more advanced and way much faster.. and yet, there are still people who appreciate the grace and resilience of horseback riding..

another sense of comparison is with a gun and a sword(or martial art)..you can easily kill with a gun but there are still people who train with a sword or martial art because of its artistry and fluidity..

so there is no need to compare traditional art and digital..each has its own audience ..each is distict from the other...at least in my opinion
