    Arrow Confused about FILTERS

    Mga bros and MASTERS,

Newbie in photography here. I would like to ask a little tip lang. When are you supposed to use filters? Is it UV or a CPL? When can you use only one filter? When can you use both filters? When can you use none?

    Hoping for a reply.

    ND filters
    - allows you to do long exposure even on bright sunny days
    - smoothens the flow of waterfall shots
    - you can make creative effects on the waves for seascapes
    - use this to get streaking clouds

    CPL
    -To reduce glare
    -To remove reflections
    -To enhance reflections
    -To improve contrast and saturation

    GND filters
    - To balance the exposure of the foreground against the sky

    UV filters
    - Blocks UV light
    - Since this is clear and does not increase the exposure time, most photographers use this to protect the front element of their lenses.

    IR filters
    - This blocks visible light so that only infrared light can enter the image sensor. You can get cool creative effects on this one.

hehe. naa toy joke ana sa isa ka site nga UV filters are used for protecting the front element... then problem napud is wala nay ni protect sa UV filter, so add napud ka ug lain filter so on and so fort. :P

so in short, pwede ra sila i-stack

when not to use filter: shooting at nighttime

Yes you can. This really is not the best example but here is a photo example:

    EXIF
    Exposure: 20 seconds
    Aperture: f/8.0
    Focal Length: 17 mm
    ISO Speed: 100

A CPL, ND106, and 2-stop GND was used here. The ND106 allowed me to get a 20 second exposure to produce a cloud-like effect on the water. GND helped lift the shadows off the foreground and allows me to get an even exposure of the foreground and sky. The CPL enhances colors and somewhat reduces glare from the wet rocks.

The only downside to stacking filters is vignetting on a wide angle lens. That's when darkening on the corners occur. To avoid this, I only shoot at 12mm or higher on the Canon 10-22.

ND400 blocks 9 stops of light while ND106 only 6 stops.
both filters are from different filter maker.

    ND400 is Hoya
    ND106 is B+W

sir ive heard nga pwede daw i stack pero it gives different outputs daw kuno? how true? if example daw duha imong filters (CPL & UV) if UV ang maguna kaysa CPL, it gives this kind of output, if ang CPL daw ang maguna kaysa UV it gives another output sad daw.. libog ko.. hehe..
