    Default About RAM

    Sorry mga bros naa na pod koy newbie question ... sensya na.. ulaw ayu ni dah.

    i wonder lang ba.... why do i need to overvolt a 1066 ddr2 ram if i put it into a motherboard that supports 1066mhz "thru overclocking". lets say a 1066mhz team xtreem into gigabyte g31. its like this... when i put 1066mhz ram, my gigabyte board detects it as 800mhz only, para ma run nako ug 1066 or nearer ang 1066-ram kay i need to play with my multipliers and FSB para mu bump ang speed sa ram. akung question, why do i need to overvolt it? nga spec man na niya ang 1066, aku ra man gi bump thru changing multipliers since the board doesnt naturally supports 1066.

    nope. akung question kay why do i need to Overvolt it? here, lets say E5200 stock speed 2500mhz, and when u OC it to 4000mhz u need to overvolt it because it is running at speed nga mas higher sa iyang specs. ang question is, why do i need to overvolt a spec'd 1066 ram if i just adjust it to run as 1066 too. just like what i have said 800mhz ra ang natural support sa mobo but it supports 1066 thru OC, means it will detect 1066 rams as 800 unless u overclock it.

    i check kuno sa CPUz sir sa SPD tab, timings table pila imong JEDEC/XMP if naa.

    you said you're undervolting the memory, how much voltage are you feeding it now? some 1066 rams
    can run using only 1.8v, my xtreem is rated 1066mhz @ 2.0v.

    btaw bro basin mura nimo siya gi overvolt pero mao diay to iyang default pero wa lang na detect kay tungod needs overclocking daw so nag undervoltage siya kung nag run siya sa 800 kaysa sa iyang default na 1066.

    hmmm maybe, i'll check

    you do not need to overvolt the ram. it has a voltage specs where it can run 1066...the highest official JEDEC ram fsb rating is 800MHz...when the ram is rated DDR2-1066, it simply means that it was manufacturer's tested & certified to run at DDR2-1066 at a specific voltage range...but the AGTL+ mem controller of the G31 supports up to 800MHz only...watch your DRAM:FSB Ratio when you raise it up to 1066...

    too add to simoko's statement;

    JEDEC is the regulating body of electronic specification, so when we say the official JEDEC rating of 800 MHz (DDR2), 1066 is already out of standard but since the memory manufacturer indicates that the memory can run at 1066 per se, this means that you'll have to do minor overclocking or adjustments to FSBRAM ratio to get to that speed.

    If you open CPU-Z and look the memory SPD table, you'll find the standard JEDEC frequency that your memory can support, non-standard frequencies are usually not added to the EEPROM on the memory for latency and timing but on a label affixed to the memory itself.
