the only way to trully harness your rams

is tinkering with the bios settings

    especially the timings and FSB

    you have a 2 x 1GB kingston ddr2-800mhz

    download cpuz: http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php

and you will get all the data on your ram, FSB, Cpu frequency etc.

The figures you want to know are:

is your memory running at 800mhz? or 667mhz? or 533mhz?

    next is the FSBDR ratio

    is it 1:1 or 4:5 or 2:3

you can adjust them in the bios of your motherboard.

you will have 3gb of memory

if your OS is windows XP Pro.... that is already too much... 2gb will only show little improvement compared to 1gb windows XP

but if you are using Microsoft Vista Premium.... then 2gb is the minimum adding 1gb would be better....

it will still work on dual channel.

but its important to match all the rams you are using... if kingston... then same kingston model for all rams...

if you don't use matched pairs then performance will depend on the slower ram.....

so if the kingston is slower.... the geil will match the kingston and it will also slow down to the level of the kingston

tnx bro. mo matter na CAS latency if different? so ma dual channel ang duha 2x1gb and 2x512mb? tnx for ur help bro.

yup cas latency should be matched

or else the slower latency will be used by the motherboard

it will still be dual channel.

i believe you should make sure that they have the same CAS lantency. i think kingston value ddr2 800 is clocked at 5-5-5-15 while geil modules usally clocked at 4-4-4-12.

@spookey: Actually bro...the DDR2 Geil Value RAMS are at CAS 5-5-5-15 while the Geil Ultra & Esoteria are at CAS 4-4-4-12.

Mga bossing, noob question lang po... sa latency bah (or unsa tawag ana.. the "4-4-4-12" thing..), mas maau ang higher ani or ang lower?
