    Default Good Citizenship

    Good day!

Something a friend of mine struck me when he said. "Sige lang ta reklamo about corruption and all but when we are in a situation where in we can do something about it.. we dont."

Then I started to think that yeh, I do complain a lot about corruption. And I have always thought that the root of the delayed development of the country is caused by it. But I thought, am I part of this corruption myself? Yes! How? Well I listed a couple of things that I do that make me part of the system.

    1. I don’t require receipts from store owners or vendors. Specially while buying gasoline.
    2. I don’t follow traffic rules
    3. I don’t pay exact tax or community tax certificate.
    4. Hatag kwarta para palusot para sa drivers license renewal.
    5. Ignore the anti mendicancy drive.
    6. I don’t report illegal traffic incident that happen.

    And so on…

I am sure that most of you have the same or simmilar stories to tell..
Right now I am trying to the best of my abilities to be part of the solution and not part of the problem which is now deeply rooted in the system. That's why I always share this opinion to anybody who wants to listen and maybe.. just maybe I or we can make a difference. However small it is, its still a difference.

Yeah. Aside from being vigilant always (e.g. with the actions of government), we also stop corruption by promoting a habit of honesty in our daily actions, in our daily relations with people and institutions. How can we expect to stop it when we ourselves practice it, consciously or not, in our workplace, school, community, or family? Corruption may not necessarily be large-scale. They can also be small acts. But small acts, though they may appear insignificant, becomes serious when they're taken together.

Some, if not most, of us are not really honest. We avoid doing what is wrong not on moral grounds. We avoid committing them because they might get us into trouble.

Very true. The sad thing is everyone knows what they need to do, but they don't do it. This is not new to anyone, but people just refuse to do something about it. People must remember that the root of democracy is the people.

yes, I think this is a good topic for everyone who complains about philippine politics and economics. Look at yourself? you prefer to buy imported goods and smuggled items from china. We spend so much time in the internet which is bad for your famlies budget and will result to more corruption.

Bitaw, there is more TALK than WALK. Not only that, nobody wants to WALK the TALK. The same persons who are adamant in complaining are the first ones in line to disobey the simple rules against Graft and Corruption. Morag igo man ko!

Who are to be blamed? US, the Filipino people. The system has to be changed.... and that includes changing yata everything including the Culture. Haaay kalisod. Ako gani guilty because back before when I was working in Makati, I had Tax Shield on my basic and never had my Commissions declared. That´s just one example of subtle tax evading with my employer as my accomplice.... something normal in the Philippines BUT a very grave and criminal offense in the 1st world countries.

Here in NL, walay lusot.... naka centralized ang Tax Dept sa imong Social Security. With your number alone they know who you are... they can trace your movement.... your bank account/s, your spending habits, your pension, your accrued welfare, your investments, your employment, your mortgage, other local taxes you paid, etcetera ev-e-ry-thang!

Theres no problem with our Government System, the problem is in the implementation of these system. If we look at at our Tax Law, it is very well stated and specified whom to, how much to and etc. We need a strong leader to implement all these, because change from the TOP to DOWN is much easier than from DOWN to TOP....

    grant a little recollection:

"its better to have a weak leader with strong subjects than a strong leader with weak subjects"

but best of all, is a country with strong leadership and people.
hmmm... eh pano yan ang dami natin... ang daming walang pakialam...

still 8s nice to note we've started somewhere-- and that somewhere is within each of us who care...

sometimes, it myt just be all that it takes...

    again,

what causes these negative attitudes that drive us down? ever wondered?

or, like so many others, we just take it superficially and do our own initiatives which may actually amount to something but not necessarily much to make a big difference...

have we tried to penetrate the veneer of traditional analysis of mere "attitude change" as the key to progress...

    question is, what molds attitude?

religion molds attitude,.. I think it's time to shift religion. We need to be born again.. but the masses are big hypocrites.. we can't do anything about it.
