I've played a warlock for years and although I have quit, I left with my guild on Illidan. I've been an officer, GM, and warlock class officer for over two years in one of my guilds and during that time we cleared all of MC/BWL/AQ40/4 Horsemen in Naxx. Don't let others tell you better, but you can level with any spec. What you choose is up to you and what is more fun. Felguard is definitely a lot more fun when you can get it. You can also do PVE with pretty much any spec nowadays too. Demonic Sacrafice/Shadow and Flame is the best PVE spec number for number although it requires gear, lots of gear. If you are just starting out and want to do PVE, affliction is the way to go. Demonology isn't bad for PVE, it just bad for some encounters, and by that I mean 25 man raid encouters. You won't have any problem with Demonology in 5/10 man instances.

As for PVP, you really have no choice but affliction/demonology, your main talents being siphon life, soul link, etc.

Good warriors and good rogues are pretty much invisible. With multiple ways to break out of fear and even death coil ... so yeah. Blizzard needs to get rid of death coil and give us a real crowd control spell.
