Default Increasing Tourists in Cebu - The Good, The Bad & The Ugly...what can you say?

    Hi,
i have started this thread due to a number of reasons: (1) there is no thread i can find talking about this topic, (2) previous threads are somewhat "hate threads" against foreigners, so they get locked or deleted by mods, and, (3) well, this is a good current events topic!!!

this way, we could also discuss good & bad experiences with foreigners coming here...but just be mindful of the forum rules, ok?

    ---ooo---

"The Province of Cebu, as the most densely populated island in the country and Cebu City, as the second most significant urban center in the Philippines has successfully promoted the region as a tourist destination where one can mix business with pleasure.

The dark side, unfortunately, is that Cebu is considered as one of the top five areas for child prostitution and *** tourism. Cebu City has become the destination point of internal and domestic trafficking of children as young as 11 to 17 years old coming from Samar, Bohol, Leyte, Negros and Bacolod." ---by Delia Jurado, February 16, 2005

    ---ooo---

"Anti-Indecency Board chairman Rene Josef Bullecer pointed out there is no such thing as *** trade in the city. He said there are lewd shows during nighttime, 80 percent are happening at the Mactan area.

Also, Bullecer told reporters earlier that he has doubts on the probity of the data released by non-governmental organizations that composed Catch- Wise as the study is funded by a member of the European Commission." ---Freeman, February 12, 2005

Booming cebu tourism is generally good! it will convert to more economic activity, more business opportunities, more investments, more infra, more jobs, etc...

Of course, there are also downsides. we will have more prostitution, more pedophilia, more foreigners with attitude problems, etc...

I'm happy to see numbers increase each time. Tourism helps our local and national economy. People have more income and there are plenty of jobs available because of tourism. However, there are still rude hotel employees in town specially in Mactan. I hope the DTI will reprimand these hotels who employ rude employees.

There's 1 resort in Mactan (with club membership etc "clue") very rude jud to nga ila mga hotel staff oi. I mean, the poor hotel staff thinks he is better than those guests. Dapat jud to siya tangtangon sa trabaho oi. Maybe he is tired of his job mao nga rude siya sa ila mga guests.

actually, i also experienced a rude staff in a resort in Mactan...i lost my favorite umbrella to one of the guests. i place it on the rack intended for it and reminded the guard to see to it it won't get lost. but still it got lost. so i asked a staff to find it giving the description of my umbrella. to my dismay, she didn't even bother looking for it as she said it would be too difficult. she didn't even bother to replace it...so i called the attention of the manager whom later obliged to give me a new one...

same as your case. if u happen to find a rude staff, don't hesitate to call the attention of his/her supervisor or manager... u will most likely get an apology. "THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT".
