Since it has a SATA interface, I can assume it is usable on my desktop too right? But does it require power directly from the power supply? Or is the SATA connection from the motherboard to the drive enough to power it up?

you mean to say i have to buy an enclosure/sata-to-usb adapter for 2.5" drives? So no external power like the 3.5" ones?
