How much do IT workers make in Cebu / Philippines? (Network Engineer / Systems Administrator)

This post is purely for curiosity's sake. I was wondering if there are any people here or know people in IT and what they make. I am mostly talking about senior technical positions, but if you are just starting out your career, feel free to chime in as well.

I have been doing IT for some time now in various settings from the US Military to currently, education. I currently make around 350k a month when converted to pesos, but would be able to make more in more metropolitan areas of the US. That is without benefits included. With benefits, it would probably be close to 500k a month. Are salaries like this even achievable outside of executive, management positions in the Philippines?

What is the cost of living in the Philippines? Particularly Cebu? Can IT workers in Cebu afford a better than comfortable life? ... or just barely getting by?

I am guessing you are not a filipino or did not yet experience living in the philippines..

I may be wrong but that range of salary you mentioned is NOT possible in cebu, you must be dreaming.. not unless you are the CEO of a huge company and an expat in the country - this is the sole reason why a lot of filipinos leave the country to look for a better paying job.

I remember i was doing systems administration back when i was in cebu but the salary i was getting was not even close to 18k, this was a private german company in mactan, cebu.

The salary was more than enough for me though as i was single at that time and do not have to pay bills, living with my parents.

I think the position you've mentioned can get at a maximum salary of around 30k-40k that's if your lucky to get in to a big company. I would imagine foriegn companies in IT park or Mactan Economic zone.

Depending on what you meant by better life, i would imagine defining the term with a car, a condo/house, international school for kids if any, helper at home, etc.. The above salary is NOT enough.

I have not been in cebu for a long time so i am not able to comment on the cost of living in cebu but i am sure a lot of guys here can comment on that.

This is not to discourage you but I would recommend to stay where you are now as you are blessed with a good amount of salary.

When you have monthly salary of 350k-500k php, the cost of living in cebu is like having 3 young wives who are all willing to jump on you every night and altogether, with no problem at all.
How do you like that?

@maccebu I am from Cebu, my mother is Filipino and I went to high school there at CIS. However, I have never worked there and wanted to know if there are actual high paying jobs in tech that are not executive jobs. I have never made money while in Cebu and I do not know the cost of living in Cebu. Although I have heard it has risen sharply since I've been back (2001). I would just like to mention that what I am paid, although seemingly high, does not make me rich where I am. Better than most, but not rich by no means. What is high really depends on the cost of living of a place. So the question really is, what is the cost of living in Cebu? and are there any senior tech jobs that can afford a comfortable life at that cost of living?

350k - 500k pay is impossible here in the PH even in manila, how much more here in Cebu. For a very talented and with decent experience in Sys/Network administration. You can get 50k - 80k tops. That's for maybe IT Director, IT Manager or if you're lucky Sr. Network/Sys administrator.

Though cost of living here in PH, Cebu to be specific is cheap imho.
