Default problem with usb port pins on the motherboard...

so i bought a 5.25" multifunction panel (card reader, usb hub, audio out). The problem is it doesn't seem to work properly when i plug it onto a motherboard pin usb port (it's supposed to be plugged inside).

The motherboard model is an ASUS P5PE-VM. It has four usb ports on the back. And four internal, two of which are used for the casing's two front panel usb ports.

I tried to plug the multifunction panel via the front panel and it works fine (reads memory cards fine). But it doesn't work properly (yellow triangle w/ an ! warning) when i tried to plug it on to either free motherboard usb pins. Does it have something to do with setting appropriate jumpers for the free pins?

Yellow exclamation mark means not properly installed. Check the pins inside the mobo. If it's properly connected or might be the connector are interchange so better double check it. And don;t for get also to install the correct driver of your USB port.

you might want to check the board's on-board header pin assignments (v+, gnd, data+, data-)... there might be a small chance of your board having a different pin assignment from that used by your multi-function panel.

I've tried that multifunction thing bought at cd-r king. I really encountered a problem with that thing even just I only installed the usb extension port without plugging the other cables. the system hungs-up. It really has a problem. have it replaced with other item...

hmm, i was pretty sure i got it right, i checked the mobo manual several times. See I chopped off the head (the most common usb interface) and separated the four wires and connected each wire with front panel pins from a spare casing. I even tried exchanging the pins around (data+/- only though, i'm pretty sure with the v/gnd) and still nothing.

How about installing the driver? Have you installed the driver of your USB?

nah, it's supposed to come with the OS. Besides, i tried running it via front panel USB and it works.

These things are supposed to work the same way an external card reader should, just that the connection should be inside and on the motherboard directly.

I'll see what I can do this weekend. heh.

I tried the same thing before bro, refer to the mobo manual, etc... but still no luck. It really didnt work for me. I guess that item still has a bug.
