routes the packet from one network(ex.192.168.1.0/24) to another network (ex.192.168.2.0/24)....

u don't need a router if you have a single network (flat network). But if you want to connect to the internet, you need a router...

I need to connect ot the internet.

with my current set-up(just using a switch hub) my network can connect to the internet. whats the difference if I use a router? will it speeds the rate transfer more if I use a router?

no change in speed.. but with a router, you don't need to have a "server" or pc to use as your gateway.
