Hi Filipinos, tourists and OFWs. Creating a thread to ask people: what's your biggest culture shock experience while abroad?

Mine was in Europe. Shops close too early! Mga 5-7pm. and on Sundays many shops close too! (or half day!) walay 24 hours. Di ko kapalit og 7-eleven ice cream or shinramyun noodles kung mag midnight cravings ko.

hala ka smartass oi, it's obviously not the 'shop hours' ang pasabot nga culture. but how the people regard time and business in Asia and Europe. Kailangan pa diay ni i explain. lol

Sa brazil...

You talk them in English and they'll converse you back in Portuguese then you lost translation. Dili tanan but kasagaran ako na encounter,lol

Make sure you have a little of something when going down there...

First time I went to Japan. Sa airport pa lang.

Was kinda surprised that my host did not let me pick up my luggage, instead he let his wife pick it up and carry and load it in the car. Next was during a short stop for groceries. As customary there, the man walks in front while the wife pushes the cart and follows, the man just points to what he wants to buy and his wife loads it in the cart... Even a sack of rice... I was adviced not to help because that is how they do things there... The wife pays during checkout too. Then when we were eating, men eat first while the women serve the men, they only eat after the men finished. Mura man ko na time warp back to feudal times... I thought wala na cla ga practice ana... Guess old habits die hard.

Joked with my host na in the Philippines, it is the opposite, men do everything to please the women.

SG ug Malaysia pa ako naadtoan so mao ni ako nabantayan sa ila

ang mga mall nila walay guard sa entrance
ang driver sa ilang sakyanan kay naa sa imong right hehe
7pm nila hayag pa 7am pud nila ngit2x pa hehe
tawag nila sa ilang elevator kay lift...

Culture shock sad ko sa Russia gamay kay wala sila concept sa please or thank you or other polite formalities hehe. it's not that they're rude, part lang sa ila culture to be brief and straight to the point.

Was in HK for a few days, i really appreciate the people sa escalator staying on the right side so that those in a hurry kay makanaug ug dali sa left side, murag fast lane bah.
