When I was a kid, my dad used to bring us to Opon church on a barge back then. I could still remember how flying fishes glided like bows that came out of nowhere as we crossed our way to Muelle OsmeƱa. I recall there were rocks, seabrains, corals, jelly fishes, urchins and starfishes so visible even from the deck.
Unfortunately, you don't see them now. Much of the life and beauty below the magnificent channel is lost now. If you haven't tried a ferry at Pier 3 or Muelle OsmeƱa, get yourself a ride and you will know what I'm talking. The sea is murky. Garbage and animal corpses are a usual site and the smell is just disgusting as you approach or embark Pier 3.
Some of the garbage reach as far as Olango and at the coastlines of many popular resorts. Cordova folks, resort-owners are complaining nga " daghan gyung hugawan nga mga taga sugbo kay gihimung basurahan ang dagat."
It's never too late to do a clean up...you only need to tell your friends what's happening. Or if you have friends sa Cebu Port Authority ask them to enforce strictly against the dumping or throwing of trash from passengers. Diha sa Carbon pod...many of their carcasses are thrown diha sa dagat as well as mga innards sa karne, plastic cups and other non-biodegrable stuff.
Let me know what you think here and let's help make Cebu a tourist and environment-friendly place.
