Default Life with my FujiFilm XT-1

Anybody here already go XT-1? I remember there was pool between D610 and XT-1 and the thread just died in its natural causes.

So this will be just a short talk about my real world experience with my new FujiFilm XT-1 recently acquired two months ago. In all honesty I do not have good and noble reason to write this blurb other than helping my fellow Cebuanos to decide their next mirrorless camera gear, and yeah I wasn't paid by Fuji as well. This is just pure excitement driven rundown photosmacking review.

It will always be work in progress thread, so I'll be putting my table of contents in this first post.

    First post ISO Performance.

    Image Quality - ISO

In my opinion, the XT-1 image quality is outstanding! I have been a user of Nikon D7000, D600 and Canon 5D Mark III and what I have noticed is that the image output is as almost at par with these mentioned cameras. It may not have a larger sensor than the full frames but the output is just as almost equal in terms of ISO cleanliness. Although in light gathering and ISO endurance department it may be a different story to tell. Syempre, compare it to D7000 and other current APS-C cameras it is equally good or yet significantly better.

Here are my collection of photos pairing XT-1 with lens 18-55 F2.8-4.0 OIS turned "On". I am mixing higher ISO from 800 to 6400 in real world low light situations. The pictures you see here is of Strait Out Of the Camera in JPEG with different film simulation and as well as ISO Noise Reduction set to 0 - which means it is in "normal" lang na siya bai.

The RAW output MAY not be applicable as these JPEGs SOOC are being rendered nicely from the camera itself.

Beautiful. It's nice to know that more and more people are taking the mirrorless path. Back in 2011, I sold my Canon dSLR and replaced it with a film rangefinder camera.

But I plan on buying the Fuji XT-1 in the near future.

    Why?

It has everything I need. Adjusting your Shutter Speed, Aperture and ISO are just clicks away.
It's compact, it's got the image quality, it's got everything.
Fuji really listens to their customers.

Kapoy ng style sa Canon ug Nikon na mo-agi pa ka ug P,A,S,M, ug uban pang mga buttons para lang maka-adjust ug exposure. What a joke.

Thanks for sharing btw, and you've got excellent photos! Well done.

    Image Quality - Dynamic Range

I am back again! This time I am going to show you about the high dynamic range capability of my XT-1. I am very pleased to write down this just to inform you that there is a plentiful amount of information I can recover from the X-Trans RAW file. Amazingly, this almost a palm size camera (for me) can perform its dynamic range in similar way as the Nikon and Sony's do.

Now, here is the onion! RAW file comes into play in this type of photography, at least for me because I can have a full command of details to what degree of colour should it be rendering for my own taste. A caveat though, this section is more of a personal choice. Each photographers has its own signature and to each is his own.

The above image as I describe it here is too dull, walang ka buhay buhay nga building just across my office. The sky shows little detail of colour and too much burned highlights. Looking at the ground, trees are too underexposed with almost no shadow detail.

Now in Lightroom 5 with FujiFilm .RAF (RAW) file, I am recovering the sky by moving the highlight slider to full left, and the shadow slider to full right. In addition, I am giving a short nudge to the exposure slider and as well as white and black sliders under Basic tab.

You may have noticed that the shadow / black area stayed "black" with little or no noise to show. In other cameras, increase in exposure to an under exposed photo would cause the black to turn into "brown" with colour noise and a pronounce grain. But there are remedies to that issue. Some photographers can compensate this with multiple exposures and blend them in Photoshop. While some also compensate it with third party software that would produce an HDR effect. However, as for me I am more dependent on an onboard high dynamic range sensor.

The above image is the finish product of my post processing. I have done a lot of adjustment apart from the basic ones I did from the above screen shot of adjustments. Photoshop was also involved in sharpening using High Pass filter.

I hope this helps for you in your quest for selection of mirrorless cameras. More review coming in with FUJIFILM's film simulation and XT-1 handling.

I'm glad that the Photos worked on you. All I did was more on a composition (camera settings included) and crop. XT-1 did all the noise reduction, color and other necessary adjustment for an excellent image quality.

Really want to make the switch to a Fuji mirrorless nasad, either than X100 series or XT-1. Although I've no plans of selling my old DSLR, it's becoming more and more inconvenient when I'm travelling and hiking.

Does any of you here tried using flash? There seems to have a limitation of up to 1/250 in shutter speed...beyond that there's already an underexposed portion of the photo. any thoughts?

Former DSLR now mirrorless user here. Two reasons: weight and relatively cheaper lenses

What mirrorless brand if I may ask?

IMO, Fujinon glasses are relatively expensive considering they are for APS-C sized sensor.

    Nice pics TS.
Ma-tintal man sad ta og shift to Fuji....
