    Default Remembering Ana Escalante Neri

I met her one time--the first and last time--in my place of work a few years ago. It took me a few minutes to recognize her--the Ana in person. Talk about being star-struck afterwards. A little chitchat revealed we had some things in common--educational background, interests, etc. Funny how awed I was by her that when she left I said to the guy beside me, "Ain't she just so pretty?"

Happy memory. Some brief encounters last forever in our minds.

Some of you may know her personally. Please feel free to write something nice about her and/or her writings. Thanks.

I never met her but read some of her articles in the newspaper (although rare ra pud ko mo basa ug newspaper) and I would skim through the pages to find things that interest me - her writings were one of those that sparked my curiosity. But it wasn't really until I heard about what happened through a friend that I realized how much she really touched me. To be honest, I was devastated but also confused why I was (because I don't know her much). I went home that night with a picture of her in my mind, trying to search myself - because feelings just don't appear to me (and us) for no reason and I wanted to trace its roots. In the end I realized how amazing it is that some people can touch us so softly we barely notice, but they make a difference in our lives just the same.

as they say, sometimes we can only admire from afar

but i had a minute glimpse of ana escalante neri's life with awe and curiosity through a computer screen.

it wasn't too long ago that i stumbled upon her multiply site (barefootcebu.multiply.com) and since then, i was checking it out everytime i can remember. as a girl who shares the same interest to the things she seemed to have achieved, i can only look at the photographs of her vibrant travels, her gift with words, artful style, and effortless beauty.. damn, i wished i could be that!! then i realized too that the sound of her name leads me back to the columns i used to enjoy in the local paper.

obviously the news of her demise was a shock to me. though i don't know her personally, she was.. well.. promising. the kind who couldn't have asked for more.. yet still has so much more to offer. i don't know. i guess we'll never really know somebody else's pain.
