It just 1/2 true.
I am programmer since 25 years, and ... sorry... something is just not right with that story.
Maybe it apply to local "programmer", and local "software companies", but it wont apply international.

somewhat true pro pahumot ra ni sila. ako advise is know the job position that you are applying. If mapakita nimo nga
experienced ka sa position nga imo giapplyan is mas dako ka ug chance makuha nimo ang job.

If newly grad kay of course know the basic of everything and dako gyud plus ang imo grades, certificates, ojts if ever.
Mas better pud if maka specialize ka ug one technology.

If I am a college student right now I would study mostly on J2EE technology and any web related technologies out there. Mas daghan job opportunities ani na field.

Exact. If you are a game programmer, the big companies do not care about what you have studied, they care about what you know, however you got that knowledge.
Its just business. As faster a company get their product ready, as faster they make money. If they can chose between a fresh graduate or a programming freak who never studied anything but is able to write quick programs, they will chose the 2nd one.

I agree to softtouch_ph, business is a business they can't afford to waste time & money.

This things are a big plus. But as what was said earlier, "pahumot" ra na. Though, it's a lot better if you know all of it because you're more versatile and would be a cut above anybody else, especially if you're an expert on those fields and have the certifications to back it up.
