there are actually a lot of considerations for this one. Let's take google for example. one way is to pay. And then your site link will appear in the sponsored link(usually found at the right side) evrytime a user searches an item that will match your keyword. usually, you pay in every click. it will cost you.
the other way is free, but you have to learn some things, especially in the design of your website and you will have to wait for 6 months or more for your site to finally appear in the first few pages of the search engine site. first tip, do not have a website that is heavily loaded with flash. As much as possible, use plain HTML. Meta tags are not really significant anymore in SEO. I think search engines such as Google depends on the actual content of your website. I really can't tell you all here about it. And of course, I am still learning more about it. The point is, if you want it free, you will have to consider the design of your website and the web standards.
use adsense powerful meta tags. study ur competitors. it's not an easy job. google & other search engines has there own rules on how crawlers works. even seo experts dont know how but one thing is certain. they change the rules from time to time for it to be fare. this is also the reason that if u really wanted the hits and got the budget u pay. google ads or hire a seo experts. coz from time to time.. seo experts submits ur site and assess everything ... including how this crawlers work.
thanks for that info bro.. i really appreciate ur mindful reply...Originally Posted by dongzky

Its not easy SEOing a website. SEO is not an exact science and it tricky esp. if you're using competitive keywords. I've sometimes compared SEO to playing Marco polo, you have to feel your way through since nobody really knows what algorithms SE use so most of us look out for trends.
You can use PPC which means you pay for a top ad spot on Adwords... but i've found that its not effective, its costly and has low ROI... there's actually a study on that. Most people click the SER more than the sponsored ads...
Just note that SEs like Google index a site about 3-4 weeks and they change algorithm every month (this is what's called a Google Dance) But google has major algo changes every 3-6 months. The most recent algo is Jagger 2. Which was a result to halt link bombing schemes... The 3 major SEs you need to focus on are Google, Yahoo and MSN since these 3 power other engines. For example Yahoo powers both inktomi and altavista. Google powers Lycos, AskJeeves and AOL Search.
1. Select your keywords and keyphrases carefully. Have a balance of both competitive and niche keywords and research what your competitors are using. Focus on 3-5 keywords and phrases.
2. CONTENT. CONTENT. CONTENT. Integrate keywords in your content. This is the most important aspect since SE index your site with your content so it should be relevant. It also helps to repeat your keywords a number of times but also be mindfull that if you overdo it you can be penalized for keyword stuffing.
3. keep design simple. Simple HTML works better than Splash pages since SEs can't index graphics. DO NOT use frames because an SE will index part of the framed site not the whole...
4. Keywords on meta tags, URLs, alt tags, anchor text and image replecements text. Try and integrate your keywords in your url like www.yoursite.com/keyword1-keyword2.html (uSe hyphen not underscore)
5. Link to other sites and have them link back to your site. But make sure the sites you link to are quality sites or sites that have higher PR like 4 or up. Submit your site to directories.
6. Submit press releases and news items to online pr sites.
7. Do NOT use doorway pages, invisible text, microtext or any shady SEO tactics. Believe me Google will find out and soon you'll find your site stripped of its PR and ranking. Case in point BMW.de and Ricoh.de banned after using doorway pages.
8. If you still don't see any ranking by the 6th month. scrap it and start again. Use a different keyword set or upload more content. Check your rankings monthly. You can do this by checking manually or using WebPosition Gold or WebCEO if you handle multiply websites.
hopes this helps...
very well said rockart9
@rockart9
yes!! it helps a lot bro..thanks!
rockart9 rocks, great lesson there....
but really SEO is not an exact science because the search engines change their algorithms every so often...
what we know of effective SEO today could be different tomorrow... and the applied techniques today are simply duplications of recorded past successes by applying these techniques, they may not work anymore if the search engines change the way they index sites again....
there is a lot talk about it... but i do now want to further complicate things or add a myriad of actions instead let me just say one thing and simplified, want to get ranked well on the search engine results page? Come up with really GREAT and ORIGINAL content, and ensure that you have a good number of quality back links to your site, and you will surely be found, indexed and ranked accordingly

Im an internet marketer now for 2 years... and its my main source of income...
well most of the tips here are right on the spot... ill just add a couple...
* Register your domain for at least 2 years... google has patented that idea as a seo algorithm
* be careful where you link to...
* get incoming links with anchor text on them... incoming links with high PR are the best...
* be patient! - if u got a new domain name - ull prolly get sandboxed by google...
NOTE: SEO isnt the same as traffic generation. SEO is even under Traffic Generation. Why did I mention this? coz honestly SEO sucks! Its more like a hit or miss thing and too much time... Better learn how to get traffic from other sources other than SEO dude...
