Default how to select the right memory?

need your help guys on choosing the right memory.
    1. Is 1G enough? I used my pc usually for dvd playback and manage pics. I sometimes play games.
    2. What's with dual channel? does all new motherboard support this? How much improvement will I get if I run on 1GB running in dual channel than in single channel? 50% faster?
    3. How to choose right memory speed.
