Yeah that's so true
That's what our doctors told us when our Dad had a stroke
years ago and gone comatose for a week. We were hanging
on our dear hope that he would wake up despite some telling
us that we have to let go.
Then our docs told us that it's not the medicines who's going
to cure our Dad but it's love. The recovery would be faster
than expected if the family is there for the patient because
it's the only will for him to live longer.
So my sisters came home from Manila even my Mom and I
went on indefinite leave from work to be by his side while
he was in a coma. We include him in our conversation as we
reminisce about those funny anecdotes that would remind
him what a good life we had. Then I'd ask my Dad to squeeze
my hand if he can hear us. His finger would move a bit but that's
a good sign he's still with us. It was the first time I told him how
much I love him (I never told him that when I reached Grade 5).
I kept telling him that as I hugged him and asked him to wake up.
True enough, he woke up (miraculously) after a week and he began
crying because he missed his family. Everyone was puzzled how my
Dad survived two major strokes in two months and now he's perfectly
healthy. Well, it's not the medicines but he has found the reason to live.
He knew from the whole experience that he is loved by his family. And
that's one good reason to stay
