    Default Computer colleges Cebu

I hope this is the correct forum for this, if not please feel free to move.

I am wondering if anyone has a good experience of a college that is good for learning web design. Subjects can cover from HTML, dreamweaver, flash, javascript and so on.

The reason I am asking is that I am putting my girlfriend through a 2 yr course at ACLC in Mandaue. I had read their course literature and they had clearly stated that they would be covering allof these subjects. Her classes started yesterday and they told her that they will only be covering HTML and Dreamweaver and that at the end of the two years she will be able to make her own website.
WOW She can already do that. I started her off myself with frontpage and then sent her books on HTML which she can pretty much master and she has all the software from macromedia which she has been practicing on.

This is an overview from the colleges website of what they are supposed to teach her

The program contents provide a clear and concise overview of the many client and server technologies available. For each technology, the course highlights what the technology can do and any benefits or disadvantages it gives. By providing both positioning information and the necessary information to get up and going with these technologies, students will be able to quickly determine which technology is required for a particular application and then start immediately with application development.

The program covers the main Internet technologies including basic and advanced html, CGI, JavaScript, Flash MX, PDF, Java, JSP, ASP, PHP, CSS, XML and database access technologies. It also outlines the features leading web tools offer to support these technologies. Web tools covered include Cold Fusion, Dreamweaver, JBuilder, JRun and WebLogic Server.

How they expect to cover al those subjects in depth in that short space of time is beyond me

Out of the 6 days (30 hours) a week that she is attending the college she spends 5 hours on the computer learning her chosen subject. If this does not improve by the end of this semester I will pull her out and get her to either study at home or find someone that will take her on a as a non-paid employee.

so, if anyone knows of any good colleges out there in Cebu please let me know

    Thanks

I have been asking that question , years ago..

Although, I "graduated" in Informatics .. All i can say about my instructors are dumb! except for one i know.. I part timer there.

Sorry for my words but can you imagine teachers playing Ragnarok! while one of my classmates says " Are you going to teach us or what? "

All i can say that my skills in both programming and design are not because of those teachers.

and far as i know, the school admin are not doing anything about it.

I would recommend study at home style.. I did owe most of my knowledge in Lynda.com video tutorials.. which is very good!!

But, you can never learn unless you have the brain , skills , time and dedication to it.

if you want serious schools that teaches web development, you can't find it here in cebu. about 95% of my fellow developers are self-taught.

    Hope that helps.

btw, i have been to AMA in Mandaue also.. but only about a week.. they are worse than informatics.. trust me!

Thanks for that, it's what I guessed after the first 4 days she spent there.

Her first day was last Thursday when she was told to turn up at 7.30am for a meeting with all the teachers, one finally turned up at 9.00am. I've already paid for the semester so she may as well finish it, if nothing else she may make some friends.

She's definately clever enough to study at home but I would like to get her some guidance as to what direction she should take. So, if she can go into some company for a couple of mornings or afternoons and learn from them, even if it's for no money she can work and learn, or find someone who I will gladly pay for private tuition, that will help her. She has all day to study so time is not an issue

Thanks again for your information, unfortunately it's what I suspected!!!

When i smell something was fishy.. i never came back.. I was thinking that i might be wasting my time. But my friends there are cool!

good thing i didn't pay the whole semester!

    me, from Informatics SM.
I graduated 1st course last 2004...hehehe....and alas!! i made it in 2nd course but wala matiwas. but i plan to continue in the future, i hope.

Also thanks for 4 instructors during my time, the other one was part-timer but very great in Java, the other one was the instructor in C++.
third, good in math analysis and logic, and lastly the female instructor in SQL and Advanced queries.....
Sometimes I experienced one-on-one with the instructor.. nyahaha... it was mind twisting..... those good ol'dayz...

    -------
These dayz, I'm a resident website progammer, working at home(employed).

It's true, some of the sources are self-taught, or self-study.
    -------

If mag study gani about PROGRAMMING and TECHNOLOGY..... naa jud dedication, kabaw baya mo nga medyo kinda expensive ang bayranan sa school. During my time it was a gamble, I'm not rich guy but i did all my best to extract all the information i learned from school. Karong panahona, medyo lisud na baya.... Basta don't waste your money spending to school if you can't learn something.

    Informatics SM!!

Ako migo ang ng.una nako daan sa informatics nya mi.warn na nako about dha pero i just enrolled for "certificate" purposes.. My short term course was CIPP (Certified Internet Professional Program).

Ang certificate nga ako g.pangita ky hangtud karon wala ghpon. I was waiting for the exam sa PERL pero cge ko follow-up for one month or two , call or visit, pero wala jpon! Ambot ana nila dha , its' almost 3 years pero i don't recieved any follow up.. the exam fee was part bya sa 5 - 7k per month nako nga tuition.. paet kaau ky ako sis ang ng.gasto.

Btw, I got a friend there sa Raintree and gikan sad sa SM , he said ky "better" daw ang raintree ky dghan taw.. dghan sad ka ma.ask for solutions bah. hehehe.
Pero if you want to have serious programming skills.. Self-discipline is what u need. take time to look for video tutorials online.. pirting dghna karon..

I am not criticizing Informatics as a whole but at least they know that I am not happy with their service. Asa ka anang maestro nga cgeg duwa ug Ragnarok while in class?

    in response to garlic:
haay garlic...wala lang ka kaabot sa mga maayo nga teacher diha sa Informatics SM. Sayang, wala nmo natiwas ang CIPP exam. Foundation na unta to nimo for WEB Development, I also started there you know. But nevertheless, Im happy that you consider yourself a developer now.

Kanang teacher cge duwa ug Ragnarok, maayo man sad to cya, naatol lng jud nga nalingaw pud sa pagka.uso sa Ragnarok, hehehe. Inyo unta to gidukol inyong teacher cge duwa hehehe, or gisumbong ninyo ni Sir Karl, hahaha.

Bitaw seriously, Im a bit sad that Informatics SM is deteriorating, gone are the days when the foundation of the institution was still active during our time.

Pero naa sad nice didto oist, kato lng chicks kaau nga seatmate!

if imo sad i-bagay sa gasto bah.. liman ka anang 5-7k per month. dili bya lalim mangita ana nga kwarta.

    paki-dakol nya kung mg.kita mo.
