THE Regional Public Safety Battalion (RPSB) filed a case Monday before the Cebu Provincial Prosecutor's Office against 18-year-old Jomari Albuera Nemeño who was arrested for drug possession.
Nemeño, a resident of Barangay Patupat, Barili, Cebu City, was charged with violation of Republic Act 9165 Section 11 (Possession of Dangerous Drugs), which has a penalty of P200,000 or 12 to 20 years imprisonment, and Section 12 (Possession of equipment, instrument, apparatus and other paraphernalia for dangerous drugs) with a penalty of P40,000 or six to 12 years imprisonment.
RPSB investigator Aladdin Carreon said they conducted a spot checkpoint around 12:30 a.m. of July 27 during the fiesta celebration of Barangay Azucena, Barili, Cebu City when they intercepted Nemeño.
He said Nemeño was with his cousin onboard a motorcycle when they tried to avoid the checkpoint. The suspect’s cousin was able to escape.
The police searched for Nemeño’s license to drive but found a 0.03 grams of shabu and an aluminum foil (drug paraphernalia) in his pocket instead.
Nemeño admitted that he has been using drugs, because shabu is a hangover reliever when he is drunk.
He is now detained at the Barili Municipal Police Station. (Marissa M. Canillo, PIT intern/Sunnex)
