THE National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) 7 arrested a suspected drug pusher and three others during a raid on a house located at the back of the old San Roque church in Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City yesterday morning.
Zenaida Amplayo, 58, her daughter Pifer Amplayo Gutierrez, 30, son-in-law Giovannie Gutierrez, 33 and nephew Bryan Amplayo, 29, were caught by the team led by NBI special investigator 3 Larry Dominguez.
Seized from Zenaida during the search were a sachet of suspected shabu, more than P20,000 in cash believed to be her earnings, and drug paraphernalia.
In the Mambaling raid, Zenaida said she allegedly sells drugs because she is in need of money. Her other source of income is making curtains.
“Lisod kaayo mi (We are very poor),” she said.
The raid on Zenaida’s house was based on the search warrant issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 17 Silvestre Maamo Jr.
Fetus
An NBI agent bought a sachet from Zenaida before the arrest.
The NBI team also found a fetus placed inside a bottle in one of the rooms. Pifer told them she had a miscarriage sometime last February.
“Wa na siya magpa-abort. Na-slide man gud na siya (She did not have an abortion. She slipped and had a miscarriage),” said Zenaida.
Dominguez said they will charge the suspects with violation of the Republic Act or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Complaint
He said they will study if a separate complaint can be filed against Pifer over the fetus.
“If she had a miscarriage, she should have reported it to authorities,” said Dominguez.
Mambaling Councilor Edwin Managbanag said they received reports about Zenaida's illegal activity.
Mendez said some people become drug mules or peddlers because they need money.
He said law enforcers have raided and closed down shabu laboratories, but foreigners have replaced them.
“Before the Philippines was only a transshipment point, now it is already a drop-off point,” said Mendez.
