Default Nganong nag programmer man ka?

It's started with a kiss. LOL.
btaw when i was a kid playing family computer. I was really curious on how did they
create those games. samot na nakaila ko og DUAL BIG FLOPPY DISKETTE
where in your first disk is your OS and the second is your application.

Mao gyud ni exact unit until now naa pa sa balay.

My first five line of code was :
    A:/
    dir
    cd games
    dir
    run tetris.exe

    hahaha.. So whats your story?

I was amazed when I saw a picture of a computer in my grade4 math book (it was 1994) and the world was still using Dos 6.22 back then.
then I was amazed by the amazing things it can do like, newsprint or typing a document without wasting so much paper in wordstar or wordperfect and ofcourse games, games, games, remember this was 1994, when I said games, I meant DOS based games.

SInce we don't have computer back then, I saved all my money just for me to "rent" computers or use computers from other people.

Remember back then there was no internet café yet, and computers were rare, what he had was "Typing" services, back then you need to pay somebody to "computerized" your papers or arts. Computer typing was a service business.

Then 1995 came, and the release of Windows 95 changed the world, finally my brother and I convinced my parents to bought us our very first computer,
it was a 486SX2 machine, but without Windows 95 on it, pero with a little friendship from some older guys (who owns a computer school) got me my first windows 95 installer and Microsoft word.

The thing is, I DONT HAVE a CD ROM back then, but Microsoft has this 25 pcs High density diskettes ONLY for Windows 95 installer, the size is 2MB instead of the normal 1.44MB, I still have the disks back at my hometown, its a rare collection na karon.

I also tried my hands using Windows 3.1 (6 diskettes installer only), when I was disappointed on the number of diskettes Win95 installer has.

I was so obsessed about computers that I even stole a Pentium processor(grabe ang marketing sa Pentium 1 sa una gud with MMX) from a computer shop and tried installing it on my PC. I followed technology news from my Time magazines all year, from the release of Win95, Bill Gates becoming the worlds richest, and even the return of Steve to Apple.

Then came the era of Hardisk, then the CD ROM, then the internet hits mainstream Philippines in '98, then Linux (I still remember the first article by Time Magazine written about Linux and Linus T.).

Well back then people are keeping away their distance on the internet, pero I was burning days and nights infront of the computer researching things on this new internet phenomena before it even got mainstream.

(I still remember people charging around 100-120 per hour in manila just to use the internet, but in my town it was 40-60 pesos in the late 90s).

so all I can say is, I was crazy about computers as young as 11 years of age in a town in Samar where electricity is a heck of a problem, and only few people owned computers during the early 90s in our town,

Remember, I was living in a small town in Samar and not in a city and my obsession in computers were unrealistic.

I have no one to talk to or discuss about computers except computer teachers or those computer businessmen,

Kung mag istorya or mag jam man gani mi sa ako mga friends kay wla jd labot ang computer sa topic, puros music, inum ug uban pang istorya suited for a growing teen.

All I can say is ... I was different.

When I graduated Highschool, Computers and the information superhighway was becoming mainstream, and businesses were already adopting to it, so that was a clear decision for me to take computer related courses like Compsci or IT. Good thing , it was the first years that IT courses were introduced in almost ALL schools in the Phil. So I ended up at USC, graduated one of the pioneers sa BSiT (first batch)

Right now, when I see that grade4 book cover of mine, I see happy memories..

When I was in high school I hate computers specially programming in QBasic. But I love science. When I was about to go to college, my Mother advice me to take up computer science, and since I love science and computer? maybe not with programming that was my thinking. kinda stupid? hehe

It was only during my 3rd year in college that I found programming to be challenging and interesting. Now by God's grace dok2 gihapon ko. It's really amazing how God gaves us skills and knowledge!
