Considering a trip to Thailand also... I want to taste authentic Thai street foods, experience the markets and night life of Bangkok and try visiting their red light district just for the heck of it... Watching The Hangover 2 probably played a part also hehehe...

Are the beaches and resorts far from Bangkok? I have read in some travel guides online that Bangkok is pretty much like Manila; hot and humid, heavy traffic, crowded and polluted... That is my only reservations about going...

    Thanks!

yes Bangkok is like manila, grabe sad traffic specially peak hours, lisod sad ngita ug taxi specially adto sa areas nga busy. mamili sad ila mga taxi ngadto ug naa sad pakyaw-pakyaw. I would suggest to get a hotel near a MRT or BTS station para dali ra ug commute.
if ganahan ka mo adto ug mga provinces take a vhire or bus para dali sad ka maabot dili masayang imo oras, ayaw ug sakay ug train kay pirti kahinay ug sometimes hugaw pagyud. naa man gud sa mga provinces ila mga floating market makita mostly sayo rani sa buntag pwede makita nimo.
