MANILA - Senator-elect Nancy Binay on Monday admitted she is “afraid” of facing off against Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago now that they are colleagues in the upper chamber.
When asked on ANC's Headstart if she is afraid of any lawmaker in the Senate, Binay said: “Siguro si Senator Miriam na yung medyo...kasi si Senate President [Juan Ponce] Enrile nakasama ko na siya during the campaign.”
Santiago is a former trial court judge known for being a terror legislator when it comes to debating controversial issues.
However, Binay said she will be preparing for her work as senator so she can interpellate Santiago.
The senator-elect said she will get advice from Senators Loren Legarda and Jinggoy Estrada as well as enroll in short courses at the University of the Philippines-National College of Public Administration and Governance (UP-NCPAG).
“UP graduate naman ako di ba? I think I just have to prepare, di ba? I have attended a few hearings with my father. Once in a while, he appears in the [Senate] committee hearings as chairman of [Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council] and I have seen how they work,” she added.
She said she will still support Enrile as Senate president but will be OK with joining the Senate minority if he is ousted.
