Default You are a businessman??? Oh Really!?

Hi guys, long time no hear...

Anyway, allow me to post a topic on being a businessman. I recently met a very successful entrepreneur. Check out this scholastic and professional background.

    CPA
    MBA
    PhD in Economics

    (all courses taken in Europe)

I mean, this guy is a pure Cebuano from Mandaue and come to think of it, he owns an auditing and consultancy firm here in Cebu. And what catched my attention while i was in his office was a framed article in freeman, which he composed, titled "YOU ARE A BUSINESSMAN? OH REALLY!?". And it did remind me of how wanna-be-entrepreneurs, most of the time, overlook the foundations of being in business. Being in business is good, especially the rewards, but why is it that alot of people start their own businesses but only a handfull of these people end up well in business. Maybe the problem lies on being knowlegable on the foundations of entrepreneurship.

    What do you think?

They forgot the LONG TERM rewards of the business . Focus kaau sa short term success and then SPLAT ! Look at Lucio Tan as an example ... at his status and age ... he is still a hardwroking businessman like he is still in his younger years . Uban negosyante .. makatilaw lang sa first 1 MILLION nila , they think they are invincible na .

bitaw. unsa may naa sa article nga gi-frame?

in my opinion sucessful businesses do not rely on luck. they have a plan. a goal. then hardwork.

    You're all right!!!

but one question... if you were to start your own business, what would be your reason for doing so? How important is it to you?

I asked you guys this question because most often than not, this question always baffles small-time entrepreneurs, owners of businesses that have been in business for quite a long time and yet hasnt seen the result, and people who wants to start their own business when they as for help on their businesses. I mean most people look only at the results of successfull people like Lucio Tan, John Gokonghuei and etc. What people should look into are the process these successfull went thru.

What made them go through the hardships and obstacles of being in business? What made them stick to the fight when tomorrow seemed so bleak and hopeless? I think it must have been their reasons... What do you think?

speaking for myself: that would be:
    reason - profit
importance - i am the benefiiciary of it.

there are a lot of reasons why people to start business or be entrepeneurs. i agree with j_ybanez that only a few could cut bread.

in my opinion? i don't think so... a businessman doesn't need to learn all the gorry details of accounting, management, finance, law and etc... the basic stuff could be advantageous. i'm not competent to discuss what it takes to be a successful businessman. what i do know is that, among all the reasons in the world, if one's reason to start business does not include profit, that person is not in business at all.

"but one question... if you were to start your own business, what would be your reason for doing so? How important is it to you?"

"your WHY? in search for money reflects how much you want in life"
    - a satisfied man that earned his/her 1 million.. wouldn't be a billionaire, but people is insatiable, they cannot be satisfied.. so where our satisfaction ends, DEPENDS on our WHY..

i have a thought, theoritically based on my statements above, if one man have a big WHY in his/her mind on why he/she needs money. goal: to help the poor, orphans, widows, unemployed as mush as he/she can. would you think this man is a millionaire?? no.. must be a billionaire.. how can one help?? thru his/her businesses.. he/she donate, create foundations, adopt an orphan house and other noble goals. BE-DO-HAVE

Be - a noble man or wat i have read "enlightened millionaire"
DO- do have you must do to reach your goal
Have - have more to give more.

i have failed in my 2 previous business endeavors, despite giving it my ALL and despite the business exposure i gained from my 20 years of employment as manager in various companies.

and these are the lessons i learned out of those failures:

    1. i'm not really technically good at the previous businesses i ventured into, so "lack of technical competence" and "lack of talent" in those fields were to blame,

    2. those were traditional types of business, so grabe jud ka stiff ang competition kay daghan pwede motuwad basta duna lang capital. so patyon ra ka sa dinaybanay sa presyo ug sa pataasay sa pisi.
