Same theoretical speed boss kay you are limited by the interface kung SATA 2 or SATA 3, spindle speed sa mechanical drives will not matter. Pero if SSD lahi na nga story kay it is all about the seek time.

    ^ bro,

the spindle speed on the HDD do matter... faster RPM have faster seek time... maong in actual use, mas hinay ang mga 5,400 rom HDD. maka bantay gyud ta ani if maka gamit ta'g 7,200 rpm HDDs... how much more those 10K rpm like the WD VelociRaptors... again, for HDD comparison only. the faster the spindle speed of the HDD, the better it is... but above 7,200 rpm needs good cooling system/ good airflow though...

it is wrong to compare even the fastest RPM HDDs to a SSD... we're not giving it a right justification if we'll compare the performance of both... its mechanical vs electronic technology... there is a "no win" situation for the mechanical drives... but for raw storage and for redundancy (raid configuration), as of this mnoment , there is no SSD that can beat the mechanical HDDs in terms of "Price to Storage" ratio...

    now back to the topic...

compatible ra na TS... the transfer speed will depend on the mobo's SATA... so, in that scenario, you'll be limited to the SATA2 speed of your mobo... in actual performance, that is more than enough... my NAS box here used the same set-up as your inquiry... SATA 2 mobo headers and SATA 3 HDDs... "there would be No compatibility problems at all"... SATA 3 HDDs are back ward compatible to the previous generation SATA controllers...
