Guardo asks Comelec to disqualify Cuenco..unsay masulti ninyo ani?

Cebu City south district congressional aspirant Jonathan Guardo yesterday asked the Commission on Elections to disqualify his political opponent, re-electionist Rep. Antonio Cuenco, for engaging in "vote buying."

In his four-page complaint filed before the Comelec, the former city sports consultant alleged that Cuenco's distribution of accident insurance policy card to several voters in the south district was meant to lure the public to vote for him in the May 14 elections.

The insurance policy card that Cuenco reportedly distributed has a coverage of P100,000.

Guardo attached to his complaint the membership card issued to a certain Michael B. Oyao signed by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and House Speaker Jose de Venecia.

But Cuenco strongly denied Guardo's allegations of vote buying because the distribution of the insurance policy card was suspended after the Comelec advised the Lakas-CMD party not to do it.

The insurance policy card reportedly bears the photograph of Cuenco, who is gunning for his third and last term.

Cuenco said they suspended the project after the Comelec advised them that it could be considered a violation of the election laws.

"This is another publicity gimmick of my opponent. Unfortunately, all his gimmicks have failed and I'm confident he is going to fail again," Cuenco said in a one-page press statement.

Guardo used to be an ally of the Bando Osmeundok-Kauswagan, of which Cuenco is a member. -

Atan Guardo has no business running for Congress. He has neither the experience nor capacity to run. What contributions could he make? The only person to benefit from him being seated in congress is Atan Guardo himself.

i will not vote for him. according to a very reliable source.... it was ONLY when he announced he was running for congress did he pay up sa iya subdivision bills diri sa usa ka sosi subdivision sa cebu.... o ha....

i remember gyud my parents saying... if you are faithful in LITTLE THINGS such as subdivision dues.... you can be trusted in BIG THINGS like helping run this country.

I guess, both iyang kontra cause Osmena and Cuenco are both under BOPK. Mayor Tom is campaigning hard for Cuenco and we all know why. I heard from Leo Lastimosa's radio program that Atan Guardo's reputation of having a lot of money is just all hype. His health supplement business which claims to be a cure for arthritis is not doing well at all. Notice the disclaimer after the commercial? He's like a "snake oil" salesman. Naa na diay cure for arthritis?
That's why he's running for congress. Just by running alone he can already get some people to contribute to his campaign funds and that's where the money is I presume.
