up.....upp......lang...
As i have heard bro, these fish are triggered by a certain depth of water in order to breed thus breeding in a home facility is almost next to impossible. The current breeding of these fish are almost similar to breeding Pangasius species, where you'll have to find gravid females (females who are possibly carrying eggs) then with the help of hormones such as carp pituitary extract, oxytocin and leutenizing hormones, will induce the fish to expedite egg maturity and make it ready to release the eggs. Most of the time, females are cut open to maximize the number of eggs extracted. Males on the other hand are also given similar hormones for them to produce enough sperm during milting. The milt and extracted eggs are then mixed together some using a milk based solution and mixed using a feather and then placed in funnel like hatching flasks where the eggs are slowly aerated and fries usually hatch in less than 48 hours.....in thousands.
mass prod diay ning pacu, same thing with piranha sir heycroc or do piranhas readily breed in captivity kai murag daghan na raba namaligya aning gwapo(pogi)? I have to admit though the pacu and the pangasius are two of the fish bred for the ornamental fish trade that taste extraordinarily good... had grilled pacu and steamed pangasius and the meat was superb... good eats...
unfortunately bai choya, the pogi as we know it can be bred in the security of our backyards (though i wouldnt elaborate on how) and the people who do know how to breed it, relish the high price that these species command ( Make no mistake, i dont breed them). A very close relative of the pacu but they are worlds apart in terms of breeding strategies.
i wonder if they taste the same as the pacus... would love to grill me some pogis in the future... the more people breed this fish, the more cheaper the price will become in the future due to heavy competition... let's just hope they won't release this fish in ouy ponds and rivers... thanks for the info sir heycroc...
Pacu's are hard to breed. Just as @heycroc said, they need a facility bigger than a home setup can offer. Unless you own a large mud pond, basin maka taghap paka without human intervention. If you intend to do an artificial breeding, you need carp hormones to induce the so-called "heat" in animals. So far, the breeding style is more or less same as breeding koi's (captive style). Search youtube for koi breeding guides. If you satisfy all conditions, you might have success breeding pacu's. Also know that pacu's eat most of the eggs (even the mother) so you need to remove them from the breeding pond. The males fertilize the eggs by spraying sperm as soon as the female is done spreading them on the breeding pond, not inside the female's womb.
BTW, why would you want to breed fishes that grow at an enormous size and are pretty common?
I have four large Pacu at my pond...and i noticed murag nag breed sila.. i dont know lang unsaon..because naa syay water filter so most of the eggs will just flush out..or bogok...I need expert who can help me with my Pacu.. nice fish..although some restaurant nag grill sila at the high price...sagdi lang business mana ila atoa kay hobby...
