Default RUNNER'S FOOT. The Cause, The Care and the Prevention.

WARNING: If lud-anon ka, ayaw nag scroll down...

Ingrown toenails, dark thick toenails, pilas/blisters, kuko sa tiil na katangtangun na halos.

These are common among runners... Also considered as badges of a runner.... The marks of a runner! If you have these, then you're officially a runner jud! Like me! I got two.. heheheh!! duha ka index toenails nako.

does this look familiar to you?

That's what we call Zombie toenail (as what takas_bahay once said! hehehe!)....

    source: Disneyland Runners: July 2011

Q: My toenail has turned black and appears to be falling off, how do I prevent this from happening?

R: Black toenails are fairly common among runners, especially if you are training long distances or have run a marathon that involves a lot of downhill running. (My left index toe kay nadaut tungod sa busay run namu, katung downhill. but I dont fret! It's growing man pud. One of my research na nakalimtan nako ang link says na to avoid this from happening, make sure na pag downhill na gani ang dagan, always make sure na tight ang pagka hikut sa shoelaces para di mu-us-os ug ayo ang toenails against the head of your shoes!)This occurs because your toes are constantly rubbing against the front of your shoes.

Some tips to lessen the likely hood of your toenails turning black and eventually falling off - make sure your running shoe is at least 1/2 size bigger than your street size; keep your toenails trimmed and try wearing wicking socks vs. cotton ones. You can also lace your shoes tighter along the front if you're doing a lot of downhill running.

If your toenail does turn black, any pain you may feel usually subsides after the first day. Don't force the blackened nail off, it will gradually be pushed off and a new nail will replace it. Obviously, if you notice redness and infection see a doctor.

In my case,I covered mine with plum colored nail polish kay mejo uwaw gamay for me as a woman na naay patay na kuko. T_T which is okay raman daw. and I always trim the extra kubal after bathing and disinfect them with alcohol. So far gatubo na ang new nail and gakalangkat na gamay ako dead nail... Ako lang prublemahun is ang kadugay sa pagtubo. I just have to keep it clean and well groomed and never wear tight shoes again bisan mura nakog si Olive Oyl tan awun sa kadaku sako paa! heheheh!!! Will research for more!

    ---Good Vibes!
