    Default Photography and Piracy

    Hello Everyone!

Let's face it, piracy is stealing.

What I want to know is your stand in using pirated software in photo post-processing. Do you think it is ethical/unethical? Though if one cannot afford an expensive post-processing software (let's say Adobe PS), there are "free-of-charge" alternatives as gimp.

Do you care if a photo was edited using pirated software?

I'm just curious of what the present situation is.

    Thanks!

unethical gud oie... The same ra gud ang concept as stealing photo. Sadly to be honest di ko mo care, sometimes I still use PS for some of my personal works but majority of my work now I use Nikon's freeware viewNX2 (included sah pag palit sa cam) . situation? hmmm... IMO about 99% are using pirated PSCS6($699 standard, $999 and $199 for upgrade)for extended)/LR4($149 or $79 for upgrade).

yes i agree unethical jd in any situation dili lng sa softwares. pero ma identify ba kung ang gi gamit kay pirated? di man sguro unless g state or ma include sa exif or file info.

for me the price of PS kay mka boang for P60K single licensed (correct me). pero kung price ani kay less thank 2k basin mopalit pako hehehe same with other softwares kung mahimo nga P500 ang photomatix kay mopalit sad ko..nya mga plugins kay dapat P300 lng mora gud ug mga apps sa mobile hahaha kanindot kung ana ka barato ba.

I honestly don't care if a photo was edited using pirated software or otherwise. I only care about the outcome of the work. Piracy will always be here as long as prices for these programs are almost astronomical, people will always find a way. Yes it's unethical just as buying pirated dvds but people will still buy them due to our current financial standing. lets just put it this way for example as michaelocana pointed out, for a single license that cost about p60k is not affordable for us common folk. so in the first place we dont buy it in which case doesnt make us either a profit or a loss for that company. so in way using a pirated copy doesnt necessarily affect their sales since again we wouldnt have bought it to begin with.

For PS, lisod jud apason ilang price. Okay ra seguro kun imong gikabuhian photography na jud.

If makonsensya jud, we can always use Free and Open Source Software, pareha sa GIMP, Luminance, Phatch ug uban pa. Personally, ako gigamit Dream Studio nga Linux Distro kay completo na tanang pang video, music ug photo apps.

ideally its unethical... but reality says it is practical... in my opinion... if personal users lang..the price is not practical... but if you use the software for business such as advertising, magazines, publications.. it might be safe to go with the official licensed software. Case to case basis pud depending on the user preference and comfort sa unsa nga software gamiton.

I agree with everyone here . It is unethical indeed if we're talking in a business standpoint between you and Adobe Systems Inc. But would customers care if the pictures they asked was done using a pirated photo-editing software ? I don't think so . Customers just expect good quality pictures .

Although "legit vs pirated" could be a personal issue on business photographers who acquired those software legitimately may have disgust (just an assumption) for business photographers who acquired pirated software . I'm not sure one would know if a picture was edited using a pirated software .

I just do photography for fun and I have PS , Lightroom , and Silver Efex . I don't mind if a person I happen to be with in a photowalk would proudly claim that they bought those software illegally . If I think about it , we all just want to have fun . That's all .

OffTopic:well the anti-cybercrime act here in the Philippines was the 1st in the world. I doubt it if they can enforce it properly kay mismo ang manakop nag-gamit og torrent.

    OnTopic:
i just want to have good photos. kung kaya palang maka-palit og orig nga PS without selling my camera why not? what can one do with a licensed PS if you have nothing to edit. hehehe. the license itself is more expensive than all of my current gear. maybe its time for me to learn gimp again. hehehehe.
