For Web Designers which do you prefer?

Minimalist Design or Overwhelming Design?

If I were to choose I'd go with the Minimalist Design kay mas direct and nya dali ra makakita sa end user kung unsay purpose sa site. Less is More right? Simple and Clear.

Naa sad koy kaila nga gi ignan ug bati ang iyang design kay simple ra daw kau. ako lang gi ignan ako migo nga wa man cla kasabot unsay point of view as an artist and about simplicity and functionality.

I have seen a lot of sites that are plain and simple. Take and YouTube and Facebook for example. Facebook has only one color theme.

Let me your thoughts about web design guys.

From my POV I'd always go for the minimalist design.
I always practice KISS.

Yes, plain and simple is better. It lets your user see even the smallest text on your website.

minimalist or overwhelming isnt the question, the main point would be is if the information you want users to see is easily accessible to them. one thing you want to think about is the personality of your website, how would you want users to view your site? happy? serious? fun? then you can decide on which way to go.

there's no point in designing directly and just say its my design, its subjective, so its looks nice in my perspective. i want it to be minimalistic but then your designing a site for a children's party. doesnt really makes sense, does it?

^ you don't get my point do you? what I mean by design is how the information or the content is being handled sometimes web designers just think all about the designs not the content and functionality. other designers placed unnecessary elements in the page which beats the site's purpose.

IMHO, minimalist or overwhelming doesn't matter. It always boils down to your CONTENT and SITE USER FRIENDLINESS. Bisan pa cguro ug overwhelming ang design unya maayong pagkahan-ay ang content + the site is very easy to navigate. I'd say that being simple is NOT always the way to go.

But then again this is my opinion, please respect it.

i do get your point, don't get me wrong im just adding insights to your post that it all depends on what your designing for. your telling me that you prefer a minimalistic design, mag minimalist nalang ka tanan, how bout your clients needs? or the needs of your users?

how do you define overwhelming diay? how about this site? Flavors | Ben & Jerry's is it an overwhelming design because its not minimalist?

It depends on the type of website. For example if you have a law firm, I'm not sure how a minimalist design would serve you better on your site...

now you're even adding the example of adding unecessary elements which you didnt mention in your first post.

By design it does not really mean graphically. But I have to agree on your point there. Because sometimes when I present to my clients they tend to add more things to the site which would be a another problem for my team and you should already know that it isn't that easy to design a web. Which I would prefer less elements, but that's only my thoughts.

im no designer but i always want to be part on the designing... to give some inputs... it doesnt matter minimal or not... im more for functionality kay unsaon man nang nindot tood ug website pero ang UI really sucks... but it is a good practice to start from a minimalist design then let the client decide to keep it or added more...
