guys, which brand is better lite-on or hp. whitout thinking of the prices. anyone has use HP dvd-writers?

for me lite-on is ok i dont know w/ the hp haven't tried it yet

while other LIte on drives are rebadged sony:

right now some of the best dvd writers are benq (dw1640)and nec (3520a or 3540a).
you could check out cdrfreaks.com if you want to know more about these drives.
Personally id go for the benq drives based on forum reviews.

Re: LIte-on, these drives have a lot of support especially on firmwares and utilites. They are good sheep 1 copiers meaning, they can copy protected CDs/DVDs unlike the benq and nec drives. you can even crossflash these drives (ex a lite on SOHW 812s can be cross flash to SOHW 832s so that you could have dual layer support). A lot of support and hack firmwares could be found sa net. You just have to search for it. A good place to start is cdrfreaks.com

Actually most of the pick up head of dvd and cd writers are Mitsumi made so whatever brand is ok. It only matters the speed of your computer.

lite-on is ok, lg is also ok, hp is good too
