Bro TS, unsa ang major difference between Shotokan and Okinawa Shorin Ryu?

Or let me rephrase it, unsa ang naka advantage sa Shotokan compared with the other one?

the free Shotokan Classes would be starting tomorrow 1pm... @ cardwell164. ako ray ni offer ug free bay. ang uban clubs sa abellana has fees. required sa ako class would be a Karate Gi but that would come later. @ scott bernard... there are many styles of Karate both Okinawan and Japanese. Let me site some Okinawan Karate ( Shorin Ryu, Uechi Ryu, Isshin Ryu, Okinawan Goju Ryu) and for Japanese Karate, the 4 major styles are ( Shotokan, Wado Ryu, Shito Ryu and Japanese Goju Ryu). Usualy, Japanese Karate incorporates Japanese Philosophies which isnt present in Okinawan Styles like Zen. But it doesnt mean that one is better than the other. the difference primarily lies on cultural context. also, most Okinawan styles are older than their Japanese counterparts. Different styles of Karate emphasizes different aspects of training eg, Shotokan emphasizes Kihon ( good basics), Shito Ryu has lots of Katas andit also has Kobudo ( weaponry), Wado Ryu emphasizes evasion ( Ohtsuka who is the founder is a Japanese Jujitsu Master before he trained under Funakoshi, founder of Shotokan, and lastly is Goju Ryu which emphasizes body conditioning. However all of these Karate styles recognizes the practice of Kata as central to Karate's identity...
