Venus Transit event, Wednesday, June 6, 2012.

The planet Venus will pass in front of the sun, from 6:16 AM to 12:44 PM (past noon).

Venus will be midpoint of its transit at around 9:29 AM.

This event will be visible in Cebu City and most parts of the Philippines, if it's not cloudy.

I will be in Bandar Seri Begawan (Brunei) on the said date, so my transit times will be slightly different, but I'll share any photos that I may be able to take on this thread.

Here is a simple explanation of why Venus and Mercury transits occur.

TRANSIT OBSERVATION SAFETY NOTES:


1. Do not attempt to look directly into the sun--even sunglasses will NOT protect your eyes from harmful solar radiation and UV rays.

2. The least type of protection you can use is a welder's glass that's higher than GAUGE 12 (GAUGE 14 is preferred).

3. Baader or Thousand Oaks filters are recommended for photographers who want to take photos or videos of the said event, But if you're using a TELESCOPE or BINOCULARS, be sure to put the filter on the objective (i.e. in FRONT of the telescope) and NOT at the eyepiece.

4. Exposed film and exposed X-RAY sheets are NOT recommended. Looking at the sun from a pail or basin of water is also NOT recommended (tutal, Venus is too small to be seen with the naked eye anyways--you really need a magnifier or camera zoom lens)

@aldrin, try welder's glass...ang gauge 12 ok ra man sa picture-picture, and you can also use it to view the sun directly, but hunong-hunong ang style.
