in pshop select the sky using selection tool like lasso,magic wand tool then go to color balance or saturaion and adjust the slider to your color taste..that's it.

If you like a more natural effect and less PP, shoot during the magic hour, either sunrise or sunset. During sunset, wait for the sun to be low on the horizon, that's when sky becomes multi-colored it can be orange mixed with blue or magenta. The color that you saw is not exactly violet rather magenta, depending on the intensity, if lighter it turns pink if stronger then it looks like violet or indigo.
