Undoubtedly the next big thing when it comes to controlling our home electronics is motion control, for better or worse and now Samsung has revealed that the company is adding motion control to its high-end Smart TVs. To Samsung's credit, they've at least managed to create a funny enough ad that is likely to get at least a few giggle, oh and it features the Old Spice Guy.The new Samsung Smart TVs features a built in camera that not only responds to gestures, but it also features facial recognition which can be used instead of a password to access Samsung's Smart Hub. Beyond gesture control there's also support for voice control which seems somewhat more useful, at least as long as the TV can understand your accent/language.
The controls seem to be fairly basic judging by the video and if you're expecting Kinect level control, you'll most likely be disappointed. That said, judging by the UI which appear to potentially be Android based, a motion controlled interface might still be better than using a remote control. As for the promotional video, well, it's a good laugh if nothing else, but it doesn't exactly inspire a lot of confidence for the technology itself as such.
