Cooler Master's gaming brand – CM Storm – keeps on expanding its range of products and its latest addition is the Sonuz gaming headset which is a simpler, more affordable option than the Sirus. For starters, the Sonuz is a stereo headset rather than a surround sound model like the Sirus, although it does have a few selling points of its own.Due to the fact that there's only a single speaker in each of the ear cups of the Sonuz, CM Storm has been able to increase the size of the drivers to 53mm, although in comparison the Sirus has a single 40mm and three 30mm drivers per ear. The impedance has also been increased from 16/32 Ohm to 45 Ohm, although this should have little effect when connected to your average PC, but sadly the sensitive is down from 105dB to 98dB (+/-3dB), but at least the frequency range remains the same at 10-20,000Hz.
As this is a stereo headset, there's only a simple in-line remote with a volume control and a mic mute button, but that's really all you need, so no complaints here. The cable is of the increasingly popular braided type and it terminates in the left ear cup at one end and to a pair of 3.5mm jacks at the other. This is also where the detachable microphone is located. The ear cups have a diameter of 97mm, but the heatset itself is slightly unwieldy, at least judging by the early production headset we had a brief try with back at CeBIT. The headset can be adjusted easily and it features a soft pad at the top as well as on the ear pads, but due to the large bits of plastic it's made up of, if feels quite big and heavy when on your head, despite the fact that it should be lighter than the Sirus.
The only problem beyond the somewhat odd fit of the Sonuz that we can see is pricing, as the Sirus can be had for around US$100 now and the only pricing we managed to find for the Sonuz places it at around US$115, although admittedly this was through a South African online retailer, so it's not an entirely fair comparison.Source: CM Storm
