Dubai is once again looking forward to amaze the world with another architectural wonder. This time it's the Water Discus - a luxury hotel that will be the first of its kind to be located underwater.
Drydocks World, a conversion and construction company, managed to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Swiss company BIG InvestConsult AG that represents a Polish company called Deep Ocean Technology (DOT).
In case the Polish firm Deep Ocean Technology's (DOT) manages to accomplish the goal, the hotel's guests will have the possibility to spend the night beneath the waters of the Persian Gulf.
A part of hotel that will be located 33 feet (10 meters) underwater will have about 11,000 square feet (1,000 square meters) of free space and 21 two-guest rooms.
According to plans, the hotel will also include a diving center that will also be equipped with decompression chamber and air locks. In addition, there will be a spa, a spacious garden, open terraces located over the waterline, and a helipad that will be built on top of one of the discs located above the water. This will allow some guests to arrive by air.
Another interesting feature is that the hotel may be moved if economic or environmental conditions change.
In order to increase the safety level, the designers thought of making the surface discs detachable and buoyant. Thus the discs will be able to serve as lifeboats in case of disasters.
The central shaft is the one that connects the all the discs. It features an elevator and stairs so guests could benefit from an easy access to other levels.
According to Bogdan Gutkowski, President of BIG, in the future it would also be possible to create in the same region the Center of the Underwater World Protection, with the Water Discus Hotel serving as a laboratory instrument for oceans and seas.
