When it comes to notebooks, Samsung has as yet to become a go to brand for most of us, but the company keeps improving and its Series 9 notebooks caught the attention of more than one notebook buyer. Now the company is trying to get into the already fairly crowded gaming notebook sector with its Series 7 Gamer and even though the company has a rather understated design, there's some serious hardware to be found inside the Series 7 Gamer.
Depending on where you live, the Series 7 Gamer will be available in black and/or orange and at least initially it'll come with a quad core Core i7-3610QM CPU clocked at 2.3GHz and a max turbo clock of 3.3GHz. Samsung will apparently stick no less than 16GB of RAM in the Series 7 Gamer as standard and you also get 1.5TB worth of storage space with an 8GB ExpressCache. Graphics comes courtesy of Nvidia's rebranded GeForce GTX 675M which should still be pretty decent.
The 17.3-inch display sports a resolution of 1920x1080 and 400nits brightness. Other features include a Blu-ray drive, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi with Intel WiDi support, Bluetooth 4.0, Gigabit Ethernet, two USB 3.0 ports, two USB 2.0 ports, a DisplayPort and HDMI port, a pair of audio jacks, a D-sub connector, a memory card reader and a 2Megapixel webcam.As you can see from the pictures, the Series 7 Gamer has a massive 4-prong power connector and it's supplied with a 200W AC adapter to charge the 8-cell battery pack which is only good for a mere 3.7 hours. Interestingly Samsung appears to have borrowed the rear hot air exhausts vents from Gigabyte's P2542G notebook, although this is actually a good thing as it vents the hot air away from the user.
At 3.8kg's the Series 7 Gamer isn't exceptionally heavy considering its size, but it's hardly something you're going to want to lug around with you on your commute to work. Samsung has priced the Series 7 Gamer at US$1899 with a copy of Windows 7 Home Premium, but you'll have to be pretty serious about being able to play games away from home on your notebook to splash out that much cash on a notebook these days.Source: Samsung
