My blog has a new dot net address because there was a problem with the previous host provider (hosticon.net).

The address is now, www.cebuheritage.net

I hope to recover the original dot com address when it expires this May.

It is really better to buy the domain separately, even if they say FREE DOMAIN on a hosting package. It is because if you buy the domain together with the hosting package, your Web Host Provider will be the one to register it - under their name which means you do not have a control of your domain. Some web host provider may transfer the domain to you upon request which you also need to pay for the transfer fee.

If you buy the domain separately, you get full control of the domain and set it to your preferred web hosts. If you need to change a web hosts provider, you just need to update the Nameserver/DNS of your domain.

A Free Domain can usually means "it is not yours".

why wait for the domain (.com) to expire when you can get the localized version .ph .com.ph .net.ph or the .org.ph domain TLD. i checked cebuheritage.ph, cebuheritage.com.ph and the other TLD and it's available. if the .com is really important to you, then i guess the .ph or the .com.ph is more. i'm offering you any of the above TLD to use for FREE if you will transfer the hosting with us.

this is not always true. i offer free domain as part of my hosting package however i don't charge transfer fee. i usually keep the domain for 1 year. if the client doesn't want to host with us anymore then that's fine.

Yes, not all web hosts are like what TS experienced. His web hosts just disappeared and he was not able to ask for the transfer key of his domain and to unlock it. It's sad but at least we all learned about this.
