It seems like monitor manufacturers are finally starting to move away from TN panels with recent arrivals of several affordable IPS panel based displays from a wide range of manufacturers. ViewSonic has joined the fray with its new VX2336s-LED model which as the name implies features an LED backlit IPS panel featuring what ViewSonic calls SuperClear IPS technology. The display itself doesn't really stand out in terms of design or connectivity, as it's a fairly standard looking 23-inch LCD screen with 1920x1080 resolution. It features a single DVI and D-sub connector, although unlike many of the fashionable super-slim displays of last year, the slightly chunkier enclosure of the VX2336s does at least allow for an internal power supply. The stand offers 20 to -5 degrees tilt, but that's all the adjustment options you get.

ViewSonic claims that its SuperClear technology offers 178 degree viewing angles, both horizontally and vertically and that it enhances grey levels and offers true black colours. For some reason ViewSonic has still implemented a dynamic contrast ratio of 20 million to one, although the standard contrast ratio is only 1000:1. The brightness is 250cd/m2, a little dull compared to more expensive displays, but about par for this price segment. The grey to grey response time is rated at 6ms and 14ms black to white to black, which is pretty decent for an IPS panel. The VX2336s features automatic aspect ratio adjustment for 4:3 signals and ViewSonic claims that it offers 50 percent energy saving compared to a display with fluorescent backlights. The power draw is said to peak at 35W, but will be as low as 21W in eco mode. What makes the VX2336s-LED interesting though doesn't really have too much to do with its average feature set, but instead it's the retail price, as you can pick one up for around US$180 (S$225) which makes it one of the cheapest 23-inch IPS panels currently on sale.Source: ViewSonic
